Alphard price in Malaysia: buying one vs renting it for the days you need

Toyota Alphard 3.5l

The Alphard price in Malaysia depends first on which kind you buy: new from UMW Toyota, the official distributor, a recond imported from Japan, or a used one that's been registered here before. Prices move with the model year, the grade and the exchange rate, so check current ones with UMW Toyota, a recond dealer and the used-car listings rather than trusting a figure in an article. What this page can do is the other half of the sum: what an Alphard costs you every year after you've bought it, and how many days of renting that same money buys.

Three ways to buy one

New: UMW Toyota sells the current-generation Alphard through its dealers. You get the manufacturer's warranty and a known history, and you pay the highest price.

Recond: a used Alphard imported from Japan and sold here; used-car sites list them by the thousand. An unregistered recond hasn't been registered in Malaysia yet and can be financed like a new car; banks such as Maybank finance up to 90% over up to nine years. It usually comes without the manufacturer's warranty, so you rely on the dealer's own or a third-party one. Our guide to car warranties in Malaysia explains what to read.

Used: an Alphard that's had a Malaysian owner. Financed as a used car, with a smaller margin and a higher rate than a new one. Have it inspected properly before you pay; the ownership-transfer inspection only checks its identity.

What it costs after you buy it

CostWhat decides it
Loan interestThe amount financed, the effective rate and the tenure. Since June 2026, new loans are on reducing balance; see car loan interest rates
Down payment10% or more of the price, unless you finance less
InsuranceThe car's value and your no-claim discount. Financiers generally require comprehensive cover for the whole loan
Road taxEngine capacity for a petrol Alphard, renewed yearly in MyJPJ
Servicing and repairsService intervals, tyres, brakes, and repairs once any warranty ends
FuelHow much you drive, and the engine you chose
ParkingSeason parking at home or work, and an MPV-sized bay
DepreciationWhat it's worth when you sell, against what you paid

Add up a year of those, then divide by a day's rental. That gives you the number of days a year you could rent an Alphard for the same money. If you'd use the car fewer days than that, renting is cheaper; if more, owning is.

The cost of owning a car in Malaysia works through each line in more detail.

Renting the days you need

If you'd use the seven seats a handful of times a year (Raya or Chinese New Year, a family wedding, relatives flying in, a school-holiday trip), renting fits that pattern.

Grandpride rents the Alphard and its twin, the Vellfire, by the day:

CarDay rateSeats
Toyota Alphard 2.5from RM 1,0007
Toyota Alphard 3.5RM 1,9007
Toyota Vellfire 2.5 (2017)RM 9007
Toyota Vellfire 2.5 (2018)RM 1,5007

Every rental includes 120 km a day and Basic Cover, and the car is delivered free within 10 km of our PJ showroom, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley. You pay a RM 50 booking fee online, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person. Alphard vs Vellfire explains the difference between the two.

If the reason you want an Alphard is to be driven in one, you don't need to own it or drive it. A chauffeured Alphard is RM 200 an hour, for 3 to 23 hours, or a flat RM 450 to or from KLIA. See the Alphard with chauffeur page.

In between: a monthly car

If you need an MPV most days for a year or two but don't want the loan, the Alphard 2.5 is on Grandpride's subscription list. One monthly price covers insurance, road tax, routine maintenance and roadside assistance, with no down payment, and you pay for fuel. You don't own it at the end. The monthly price is CHECK: current subscription price for the Toyota Alphard 2.5 by term. Car subscription in Malaysia explains how it works.

Our view

Buy if the seven seats are in use most days: the school run for a big family, a business that moves clients every day. Rent if it's festivals, weddings and airport runs. Subscribe if it's daily use but you'd rather not carry the loan, the insurance and the resale. And look at the MPV list before Raya rather than after; there are only a few seven-seaters in the fleet.
