Merdeka 118 parking is in the basements under the tower, and the easy way in is the Belfield Tunnel, which you enter from Jalan Syed Putra or Jalan Damansara. It takes you underground straight into basement car park 4 and lets you out of basement 5 onto Jalan Syed Putra and Jalan Istana, without going near the narrow old streets around Jalan Hang Jebat.
Before you drive there, check what's open. As at mid-2026 the tower was still being completed and most of it was closed to the public. The Park Hyatt hotel on its upper floors is open, and the 118 Mall at its foot, first slated for August 2026, was due to open in November 2026. Check the official sites for the mall and for The View at 118, the observation deck, on the day you plan to go.
Getting in by car
- Set your navigation for Merdeka 118 or the Belfield Tunnel, and approach from Jalan Syed Putra or Jalan Damansara.
- Follow the signs into the Belfield Tunnel. It's a double-deck tunnel, just over 1 km long, the second of its kind in Malaysia.
- The tunnel brings you into basement car park 4. Park, note your level and zone, and follow signs up to the mall or tower.
- Leaving, you exit from basement 5 onto Jalan Syed Putra and Jalan Istana.
The developer built the tunnel partly to take traffic off Jalan Hang Jebat, Jalan Hang Tuah and Jalan Maharajalela, all of which get congested. Use the tunnel even if your app suggests the old streets. Rates and payment methods change, so read the signs at the entrance; parking in Kuala Lumpur has more on parking in the city.
By train instead
Merdeka MRT station on the Kajang Line connects directly with the development, and it's an interchange with the Plaza Rakyat LRT station. Hang Tuah station is about 600 m away. If you're coming from anywhere on the MRT, the train is less work than the tunnel.
Pairing it with the old town
The tower stands in the Merdeka Precinct, next to Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara, with Petaling Street and Chinatown close by. That makes a good half day:
- Late afternoon, park under Merdeka 118 through the Belfield Tunnel.
- Walk around the precinct and look at the two stadiums, the tower above them.
- Walk on to Petaling Street for dinner. Keep the car where it is rather than looking for a second space in the old town.
- Walk back and leave through basement 5, onto Jalan Syed Putra and away from the old-town traffic.
If you'd rather nobody drove, book a chauffeur on the hourly rate and get dropped at the tower, then picked up at Petaling Street. Bookings run from 3 to 23 hours, hours that start from 7 pm cost 30% more, and online bookings need two days' notice. Our KL city tour with a private driver builds a full day around stops like these.
Tower facts
Merdeka 118 is 678.9 m to its architectural top and 680.5 m to the tip, with 118 floors. It's the second-tallest building in the world, after the Burj Khalifa. You'll see it from the Federal Highway long before you reach the tunnel.
In a rented car
Basement ramps are where a low car scrapes and a tall one meets the height bar, so read the limit at the tunnel entrance and take ramps slowly. If you're in KL for the first time, driving in KL for first-timers covers the junctions and lane habits that catch visitors out. The Grandpride rental fleet runs from a Myvi to the supercars, delivered in the Klang Valley, with 120 km a day included.
