Grandpride has no counter inside KL Sentral, but car rental at KL Sentral works fine: you book online, choose delivery, and the car is brought to the station for your train. That suits anyone arriving on the KLIA Ekspres from the airport, or on an ETS train from Ipoh, Butterworth or Johor Bahru, who would rather pick up a car in the city than at the airport or drive out to Petaling Jaya first.
How the handover works
- Choose the car on the vehicle list and pick your dates and times. Set the start time a little after your train is due, not on the minute it arrives.
- At checkout, choose delivery and give KL Sentral as the address. Grandpride delivers anywhere in the Klang Valley: free within 10 km of the Section 13 showroom in PJ and RM 100 elsewhere. Which of the two KL Sentral falls under is CHECK: is KL Sentral within the free 10 km delivery radius.
- Add your phone number and, if it helps, your flight or train in the notes. Where exactly at the station the car is handed over is CHECK: the meeting point Grandpride uses at KL Sentral, and how long the driver waits if a train is late.
- Pay the RM 50 booking fee online when you reserve. It comes off the total, and the rest is paid in store or in person CHECK: deposit amount and accepted payment methods at a delivery handover.
- Walk round the car before you drive away and photograph every panel, the wheels and the fuel gauge. Our pickup inspection checklist lists what to look at.
- Load the Touch 'n Go card if you added one (you choose RM 50 to RM 500 when you book) and drive off.
Getting to KL Sentral first
From KLIA, the KLIA Ekspres runs non-stop to KL Sentral in about 28 minutes. The KLIA Transit takes about 35 minutes and stops at Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan. Our guide to getting from KLIA to KL Sentral compares the train, a taxi and a chauffeur for that leg.
KL Sentral is also where ETS trains from the north and the south stop, and where the KTM Komuter, the LRT Kelana Jaya Line and the Monorail (through NU Sentral) meet. The MRT is a short walk away through a link to Muzium Negara station.
Which way round makes sense
| You're arriving | Simplest plan |
|---|---|
| At KLIA, staying in KL for a few days | Train to KL Sentral, car delivered there or to your hotel |
| At KLIA, driving straight out of town | Self-drive from KLIA, so you skip the city |
| At KLIA, tired, with a lot of luggage | A chauffeur from the arrivals hall to the door, then the car delivered next day |
| By ETS from Butterworth, Ipoh or JB | Car delivered to KL Sentral for your train |
| At KL Sentral with a hotel nearby | Check in first, then have the car delivered to the hotel |
The last row is often the better plan. A car sitting at the station while you check in, or while you queue for a taxi, isn't doing much, and a hotel driveway is an easier place to look a car over than a busy pick-up lane. Delivery to a hotel or home anywhere in the Klang Valley works the same way; our guide to car rental delivery in the Klang Valley covers the fees and what to put in the address.
Driving away from the station
KL Sentral sits in Brickfields, and the area around the station is busy with buses, taxis and e-hailing cars picking up. If you've never driven in KL, set the destination in Waze or Google Maps before you move, and give yourself the first ten minutes just to get the feel of the car. Our first-timer's guide to driving in KL covers lanes, motorcycles and the toll plazas.
If you'll need to park at the station later, for example to meet someone off a train, our guide to parking in Kuala Lumpur explains how city car parks and street parking are paid.
Before you book
Can someone else meet the car at KL Sentral for me?
Yes. Someone else can collect the car if you add their details when you book. Only the named renter may drive it, though, so the person collecting shouldn't be the one planning to drive.
Can I return the car at KL Sentral?
Collection at the end of the rental is CHECK: can the car be collected from KL Sentral at the end, and on what fee. Returning it to the showroom in PJ, or having it picked up from your hotel, are the other options to ask about.
What if my train is late?
Message Grandpride on WhatsApp on +6010 322 3223 as soon as you know. How much waiting is included is CHECK: waiting time at a delivery handover before a fee applies.
Would a chauffeur be easier?
If you're only in town for meetings, yes. A chauffeur can meet you at the station or the airport and stays with you by the hour, from 3 to 23 hours, with the price shown before you book a chauffeur online.
