KLIA to KL Sentral: four ways in

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Toyota Alphard 3.5l

The fastest way from KLIA to KL Sentral is the KLIA Ekspres train: about 28 minutes non-stop, and you can't get stuck in traffic. If KL Sentral is only where you change for somewhere else, or you have a lot of luggage, or you land after the trains stop, a taxi, Grab or a pre-booked chauffeur can make more sense.

Train fares, taxi coupons and e-hailing prices change, so check them on the day. The KLIA Ekspres runs from both terminals; if you've landed at KLIA2, it's one stop further and a few minutes longer.

The train: when it's the right answer

Take the KLIA Ekspres if you're travelling light, it's daytime, and KL Sentral itself is where you want to be: to catch an ETS train, the LRT, the Monorail, or because your hotel is next to the station. It leaves every 20 minutes or so, road traffic doesn't slow it, and the fare is fixed. The slower KLIA Transit runs on the same line and stops at Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan on the way, in about 35 minutes.

What it won't do is take you the last kilometre. From KL Sentral you still need a taxi, a Grab or a walk with your bags to reach most hotels.

Taxi or Grab: when you want the door

At KLIA Terminal 1, airport taxi coupons are sold at counters on Level 3, in domestic arrivals and in international baggage reclaim, and fares are fixed by destination. The airport taxi fleet runs from family sedans up to larger cars. E-hailing pick-ups at Terminal 1 are on Level 1 of the main terminal building, where Malaysia Airports added marshals, waiting areas and marked bays in August 2026.

Both get you door to door. Neither is booked before you land, and at a busy hour or late at night you may queue or wait for a driver to accept. Our comparison of airport taxi, Grab or a private car from KLIA goes into the details.

A chauffeur: when the arrival matters

A Grandpride chauffeur meets you at arrivals in KLIA 1 or 2 with your name on a board if you ask for one, watches your flight if you add the flight number, and drives you straight to the hotel, the office or KL Sentral. The fare is flat per car, the same day or night, for trips under 80 km:

  • Toyota Alphard, seven seats and three large suitcases: RM 450
  • Toyota Vellfire, seven seats and three large suitcases: RM 300
  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class, five seats and two large suitcases: RM 600

For a family, set that one fare against train tickets for everyone plus a taxi from KL Sentral to the hotel. Book at least two days ahead online; you pay a RM 50 booking fee then, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person. Our guide to KLIA transfers by chauffeur compares the cars.

Quick answers

How long is KLIA to KL Sentral by train?

About 28 minutes on the KLIA Ekspres, and about 35 on the KLIA Transit, which stops three times on the way.

What if I land after the last train?

The KLIA Ekspres runs until around midnight, with late services until about 1 am; check the timetable for your date. After that it's a taxi, e-hailing or a chauffeur booked in advance. Our guide to late-night arrivals at KLIA covers the options.

I'm picking up a rental car in the city. Should I take the train?

Often, yes. Take the train to KL Sentral and have the car delivered there or to your hotel; car rental at KL Sentral explains how the handover works.
