Ferrari vs Lamborghini, for anyone renting in Malaysia, comes down to three cars. Grandpride's Ferrari is the 458 Italia at RM 7,200 a day. On the Lamborghini side there's the Huracán, from RM 6,100 a day, and the Urus SUV, from RM 6,000. (There is an Aventador too, but that's a different conversation.) Each day includes 120 km and Basic Cover.
Is Ferrari better than Lamborghini?
Neither, as a blanket answer. Between the 458 and the Huracán, the two cars you'd be choosing between for a driving day, the differences are smaller than the badges suggest. Both are mid-engined two-seaters, both have engines with no turbos, and both use a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, so neither needs a clutch pedal.
What differs is the engine and the age. The 458 has a 4.5-litre V8 and was built from 2009 to 2015. It was the last mid-engined V8 Ferrari before the 488 went turbocharged. The Huracán has a 5.2-litre V10 and was built from 2014 to 2024. It is the newer design, and on some versions it drives all four wheels CHECK: which Huracán version is in the fleet: all-wheel or rear-wheel drive?.
Our view: if you care about the history and the high-revving V8, take the Ferrari. If you want the shape that people photograph on the street, and possibly the grip of all-wheel drive, take the Huracán.
Which is faster?
On a Malaysian road, it doesn't matter. The expressway limit is 110 km/h, and both cars reach it without trying. Our guide to speed limits and AES cameras in Malaysia explains what happens if you forget.
What does matter is wet roads. KL gets heavy afternoon rain, and a rear-wheel-drive car with a lot of power needs a gentle right foot when the road is shiny. If you're new to supercars, plan the drive for the morning.
Which is more expensive to rent?
That depends on the car and your dates, so check the Lamborghini list with your dates in it against the 458's rate rather than trusting a rule of thumb. Then add what you choose: a Loss Damage Waiver to lower the excess, or Grandpride Protection+ for zero excess on damage and theft; extra kilometres; a toll card. Each option is priced for that car on the booking page, and the only thing paid online is a RM 50 booking fee that comes off the total.
Which one is easier to drive?
Both are low, wide and hard to see out of at the back, and both can scrape the nose on a steep ramp taken head-on. Of the two, the 458 asks for a little more adjustment: the indicators and high beam are buttons on the steering wheel rather than stalks, which takes some getting used to. Practise in the car park before you leave.

What if there are more than two of us?
Then neither the 458 nor the Huracán works, because both are two-seaters. The Urus is the only one of the three with back seats and a real boot. Our Urus vs Huracán comparison goes through that choice in detail.
Can two of us take turns driving?
No. Only the named renter may drive a Grandpride self-drive car, so whichever car you choose, book it in the name of the person who will drive. If you both want a turn, the fair answer is two separate rental days, one in each name.
Who makes them?
Ferrari is based in Maranello and has been a separate listed company since it was spun off from Fiat Chrysler in 2016. Lamborghini is based in Sant'Agata Bolognese and has been owned by the Volkswagen Group through Audi since 1998. That is why the Huracán shares components with the second-generation Audi R8. If that connection interests you, our Audi R8 rental guide covers the R8 in the fleet.
