Aston Martin rental in Malaysia: renting the DB11

Aston Martin DB11

Aston Martin rental in Malaysia, with Grandpride, means one car: the Aston Martin DB11, at RM 7,700 a day with 120 km and Basic Cover included. If you want a car that makes people at a mall entrance pull out their phones, rent a Lamborghini. If you want to drive to Penang on a Saturday and still enjoy the last hour of it, the DB11 is the better choice.

What the DB11 is

The DB11 is a grand tourer. The engine sits up front behind a long bonnet, the rear wheels do the driving, and an eight-speed automatic handles the gears, so there is no clutch to think about in a KL jam. Aston Martin built it from 2016 until the middle of 2023, when the DB12 took over.

Two engines went into the DB11 over its life: a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 that Aston Martin makes itself, and from 2017 a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 supplied by Mercedes-AMG CHECK: is Grandpride's DB11 the V12 or the V8, and which year is it?.

It is a 2+2, meaning two proper front seats and two smaller ones behind. Plan on two people. The boot holds about 270 litres, enough for two soft weekend bags. Two large hard suitcases are a squeeze at best, so pack soft.

What a day costs

The rate is RM 7,700 a day. That includes 120 km a day and Basic Cover, which leaves you paying for damage up to the standard excess CHECK: the standard excess on the DB11. When you book you can lower that excess with a Loss Damage Waiver, or take Grandpride Protection+, which brings it to zero for damage and theft and covers glass and tyres too. Both are priced for this car on the booking page.

You can also add 50 km or 100 km a day, or take unlimited mileage, and have a Touch 'n Go card handed over with the keys, loaded with whatever you choose between RM 50 and RM 500. Only a RM 50 booking fee is paid online, and it comes off your total. You reserve, then pay in store or in person. The car goes back with the fuel at the level you collected it.

Where it makes sense

The DB11 is a highway car, and 120 km a day is less than it looks for one. KL to Ipoh is roughly 205 km each way, so a weekend there and back is over 400 km before you have driven around town. Over a two-day weekend, Melaka or Port Dickson fit with a small mileage add-on; for anything further, take unlimited. Our KL to Penang drive guide breaks the longer run into legs and rest stops.

It also suits an anniversary or a birthday where the drive is part of the plan: dinner somewhere an hour out of town, the long way back. If that is the plan, our guide to an anniversary surprise in KL helps with the timing.

Where it makes less sense: a wedding day. Only the named renter can drive a self-drive car, so the groom ends up driving himself in his baju or suit, and the DB11 is not one of Grandpride's chauffeur cars. For a wedding, a chauffeured car is the easier answer.

DB11 or Bentley Continental GT?

The other grand tourer in the fleet is the Bentley Continental GT at RM 4,400 a day. Both are big front-engined coupés for covering distance in comfort, so choosing between them is mostly about which badge and which shape you prefer. Compare the two rates for your dates, then read our Bentley rental guide, which covers the Continental GT and the Bentayga.

If you are tempted by the DB11 for longer than a few days, it is also listed for car subscription, where one monthly price covers insurance, road tax and servicing CHECK: is the DB11 currently available on subscription, and at what monthly price?.

How much does it cost to rent an Aston Martin for a day?

RM 7,700 for the DB11, with 120 km and Basic Cover. Extra protection, extra mileage and a toll card are added only if you pick them, and the booking shows each one as a separate line before you reserve. CHECK: is a deposit taken for the DB11; if so, how much, how is it paid and when is it refunded?

Can I drive it to Singapore?

No. Grandpride's rental cars stay in Peninsular Malaysia, so the DB11 can go to Johor Bahru but not across the Causeway or the Second Link. Our note on taking a Malaysian rental car to Singapore has the alternatives if Singapore is on your list.
