Every weekday for a month comes to about RM 8,470 before overtime. That's the honest starting figure for a monthly driver service in Malaysia with Grandpride, because the published price is per day: RM 385 for eight hours with a driver in your own car, overtime at RM 40 an hour, RM 50 an hour after midnight. You get a regular driver on a fixed schedule without becoming anyone's employer. Whether a regular arrangement gets a better rate than that is CHECK: is there a monthly package or discounted rate for a regular driver, how many days it covers, any minimum term, and how it is invoiced and paid?.
What a month adds up to
At RM 385 per 8-hour day, before overtime:
| Pattern | Days a month (about) | At the day rate |
|---|---|---|
| Two days a week | 9 | RM 3,465 |
| Three days a week | 13 | RM 5,005 |
| Every weekday | 22 | RM 8,470 |
Overtime is where a monthly budget drifts. Twenty-two days that each run one hour past eight add 22 × RM 40, which is RM 880. If your days usually run long, say so when you ask for a price so the pattern is planned for rather than billed as a surprise.
The service itself doesn't change between one day and twenty: a Grandpride driver takes the wheel of your car, picks you up door to door and makes as many stops as the day needs. A monthly arrangement just fixes the days and hours in advance instead of a fresh request each time. Grandpride's drivers typically come from military and law-enforcement backgrounds. If you only need a driver now and then, hiring a driver for your own car for a day covers one-off bookings.
Who it's for
It makes sense when the same car does the same kind of driving most weeks. Parents who no longer drive, with clinic visits, the market and family visits in a car they already know; our guide to a driver for elderly parents covers what families usually plan for. Executives with full diaries and meetings across the Klang Valley, with someone waiting outside each one and no time lost hunting for parking. New arrivals whose licence situation is still being sorted out; cars for expats in Malaysia explains that side. And school runs, where it's the same route, the same times and car seats that stay fitted.
A service, or employing your own driver
Plenty of families and companies employ a personal driver directly, and it can work well. It also makes you an employer.
| Employing your own driver | A driver service | |
|---|---|---|
| Who finds and checks the driver | You | Grandpride |
| Social security registration | Your job (see below) | Booked through Grandpride, not employed by you |
| Leave, sick days and cover | You find a replacement | Ask how replacements are arranged |
| Commitment | An employment contract | A service arrangement |
| Cost | Salary plus statutory contributions | RM 385 per 8-hour day, or an agreed monthly rate |
PERKESO, Malaysia's social security organisation, lists a personal driver as a domestic worker, and registering domestic workers with PERKESO has been compulsory since 1 June 2022. Employment brings other duties too, like leave and notice. If you're weighing it up, check the current rules with PERKESO or an adviser first. Our guide to a personal driver's salary vs a driver service goes further into the comparison.
Our view: if you'd rather not deal with recruitment, payroll and cover, use a service. If you want one person full time for years and you're comfortable being an employer, employing directly can suit you.
Driver, driver cum bodyguard, or chauffeur
A driver is RM 385 per 8-hour day: your car, our driver. A driver cum bodyguard is RM 495 per 8-hour day, the same driving with personal protection on the road, with overtime at RM 60 an hour or RM 80 after midnight; for security-led arrangements see close protection for executives in Malaysia. Both are on the Driver & Bodyguard page.
If you don't have a suitable car, the chauffeur service brings the car as well, from a Toyota Vellfire at RM 150 an hour for 3 to 23 hours.
What to settle before the first day
Will it be the same driver every day?
That's the question that matters more on a monthly arrangement than on a single day, along with who comes when that driver is on leave or unwell, and how much notice you need to give to add, move or cancel a day. Ask when you enquire CHECK: can a regular client have the same driver assigned, how is a replacement arranged, and what notice is needed to change the schedule?.
Is my car insured for someone else to drive it?
Your motor policy has to allow another person to drive your car, and policies differ on who may, so check with your insurer before the first day CHECK: whether Grandpride carries insurance for its drivers while they drive a customer's car, and who pays for damage during a booking.
Who pays for fuel, tolls and parking?
They're part of running your car. Agree in writing how they're handled across the month, including the driver's meals on long days. A Touch 'n Go card kept in the car and a simple log make it easy to track.
What about trips outside the Klang Valley?
A schedule inside the Klang Valley is straightforward. If the month includes regular trips further out or overnight stays, mention them at the start so they can be priced CHECK: service area, and charges for trips outside the Klang Valley or overnight stays.
Kos pemandu Grandpride untuk kereta anda sendiri ialah RM 385 bagi setiap hari 8 jam, jadi kos sebulan bergantung pada bilangan hari yang anda perlukan.
To set one up, write down the days, start times, rough hours and any late nights, plus your car's make and model and where it's parked, and send that through the driver request form or on +6010 322 3223. Grandpride confirms the arrangement and the price before the first day.
