If you're looking for a driver for elderly parents' days out (clinic, pharmacy, bank, lunch), the simplest answer is a Grandpride driver in their own car: RM 385 for an 8-hour day, door to door, as many stops as they need. For a single appointment, or when they'd rather not use their own car, book a chauffeur in one of Grandpride's cars by the hour instead, for 3 to 23 hours.
Which one to book
| Driver in your parents' car | Chauffeur in a Grandpride car | |
|---|---|---|
| Whose car | Theirs | One of six chauffeur cars, seven-seat MPVs among them |
| Price | RM 385 per 8-hour day, then RM 40 an hour (RM 50 after midnight) | By the hour, from RM 150 an hour, 3-hour minimum |
| Suits | A full day of appointments and errands | One appointment, an airport run, a family dinner |
| How to book | Request form or WhatsApp | Online, at least two days ahead |
For a full day the driver usually costs less, because it's one day rate in your parents' car, while a chauffeur is priced by the hour for car and chauffeur together. Grandpride's drivers typically come from military and law-enforcement backgrounds.
A hospital day with the driver, hour by hour
Hospital visits rarely run to time. Registration, the wait to be seen, tests and the pharmacy queue can turn a 10 am appointment into an afternoon. A long day with the driver service might go like this:
- 8.00 am. The driver collects your father from home, in his own car.
- 8.40 am. Drop-off at the right entrance. Large hospitals have several, so give the driver the hospital, the block and the clinic in advance and save your father a long walk.
- 9.00 am. Specialist appointment. The driver waits with the car.
- Late morning. Tests, then the pharmacy. Still waiting.
- 1.00 pm. Lunch with your mother.
- 3.00 pm. The bank, then groceries.
- 5.00 pm. Home.
That's nine hours: RM 385 for the first eight and one hour at RM 40, so RM 425 in total. The long wait at the hospital costs nothing extra, because the first eight hours are one price whatever happens inside them.
Agree beforehand how the driver gets called back when your father is ready. If he isn't comfortable with a phone, a family member or the clinic can make the call.
For a shorter single appointment, a chauffeur by the hour covers it. Three hours is the minimum, and any hour that starts between 7 am and 7 pm is at the normal rate.
What a driver does, and what they don't
A driver isn't a nurse or a carer. Be clear about that with your parents, and with Grandpride, before the day.
You can expect door-to-door trips with as many stops as needed, and someone waiting with the car while your parent is inside. The driver's job is getting there and back. The consultation itself needs a family member or carer who has the medication list and the appointment card.
Ask in advance about anything physical CHECK: will the driver help a parent in and out of the car, carry shopping, fold and load a wheelchair, or walk them into the clinic. If your parent needs physical support, help with medication or someone in the consultation room, send a carer or family member as well.
Small things that help older passengers
- In their own car, your parents know the seats and the grab handles. If you book a chauffeur instead, the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire have sliding doors on both sides and room for a family member to ride along.
- Mention a wheelchair or walking frame when you book, so the right car comes CHECK: which chauffeur cars can carry a folded wheelchair.
- If the driver will drive your parents' car, check that their motor policy covers another driver. Our guide to a personal driver for your own car goes further into insurance and running costs.
- Older passengers settle faster with someone they know CHECK: can the same driver be assigned for regular bookings.
Quick answers
Can I book for my parents from another city or from overseas?
Yes. For the driver service, send the request form or a WhatsApp with the date, start time, expected hours, your parents' address and a line about the day. For a chauffeur, use Book a chauffeur, choose "I'm booking for someone else" and add your parent's name and number. The chauffeur contacts them directly on the day, and a Grandpride representative confirms the trip by phone. A RM 50 booking fee is paid online and comes off the total; the rest is paid in store or in person CHECK: can family members overseas pay for a parent's booking remotely, and by which methods.
What about the same trip every week?
Dialysis, physiotherapy and follow-up clinics often mean a fixed weekly pattern. Day-by-day booking works, but ask about a longer arrangement; our guide to a monthly driver service in Malaysia explains how that works.
And an evening family dinner?
If nobody should drive home, book a chauffeur. The evening rate applies to hours that start from 7 pm; our guide to hourly chauffeur prices shows how it adds up.
Boleh saya sewa pemandu untuk bawa ibu bapa ke hospital?
