The MyJPJ app is the Road Transport Department's own app. It holds your digital driving licence and your digital road tax, shows and takes payment for JPJ summonses, and renews your licence and your car's road tax. JPJ says it has more than 14 million users. Since 1 May 2026 you sign in with MyDigital ID, so if you haven't set that up, the app won't let you in.
What you can do in it
| Task | In MyJPJ? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Show your driving licence | Yes | The digital licence (e-LMM) |
| See your road tax | Yes | The digital road tax (e-LKM). Malaysian-owned private cars stopped getting printed slips on 1 February 2026, and you don't have to display anything |
| Renew your driving licence | Yes | See our licence renewal guide |
| Renew road tax | Yes | Insurance must be active and picked up by JPJ first |
| Check and pay JPJ summonses | Yes | Including AES and AWAS camera summonses |
| Check and pay police summonses | No | Those are on MyBayar PDRM |
| Number plate bidding, JPJ queue | Yes | JPJeBid and JPJeQ are now inside the app |
| Transfer car ownership | No | Through JPJ's portal, partners such as MyEG, or a JPJ counter |
There's also a guest mode that works without logging in, with limited features, and a chatbot that answers questions around the clock.
Setting it up
- Register for MyDigital ID first. It's the government's national digital identity, and since 1 May 2026 it's the only way into MyJPJ for MyKad holders. JPJ asked everyone aged 12 and above who uses the app to set it up. Permanent residents with MyPR use a separate login route.
- Install MyJPJ from the App Store or Google Play, and check that the developer listed is JPJ.
- Open it and choose to sign in with MyDigital ID. Approve the request in the MyDigital ID app.
- Once you're in, your licence and the road tax of the vehicles registered to you are both in the app.
Using it day to day
Road tax renewal is where most people use it. You can renew up to two months before the expiry date. If the app refuses, the usual causes are insurance that JPJ hasn't picked up yet, or an outstanding JPJ or police summons. Unpaid summonses can lead to a blacklist that blocks road tax and licence renewal, so clear them first. Our road tax renewal guide goes through each failure and the fix.
For summonses, MyJPJ shows the JPJ ones, which include the speed and red-light cameras. Police summonses live on MyBayar PDRM, so check both. Checking traffic summonses online covers the two systems side by side.
At a roadblock, Malaysian drivers can show the digital licence in the app, and the road tax and insurance are checked digitally. Keep your phone charged on a long drive.
I'm abroad. Does the digital licence work there?
No. It's a Malaysian document for Malaysian roads. A Malaysian driver was fined in Thailand in 2026 after showing it there. Take the physical card, and an International Driving Permit where the country asks for one.
I'm a visitor driving on a foreign licence. Do I need MyJPJ?
No. The app is for Malaysian licence holders and Malaysian-registered vehicles. You carry your own licence, plus an International Driving Permit unless your licence is from another ASEAN country; Malaysia's road rules for foreigners has the detail.
Can I show the digital licence when I collect a rental car?
At Grandpride: CHECK: is the MyJPJ digital licence accepted at handover, or must renters show the physical licence card. Bring the card to be safe, along with the rest of what you need to rent a car. If you rent and pick up a camera summons, it's sent to the car's owner first and passed to you as the driver, so it can take a while to appear in your own MyJPJ. Who pays traffic fines on a rental car explains the steps. For everything else about renting, start with how renting works at Grandpride.
