Chauffeur service in Kuala Lumpur: how the price per hour works

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 5 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

Toyota Vellfire 2.5l

An hourly chauffeur in Kuala Lumpur costs from RM 150 an hour at Grandpride, in a Toyota Vellfire, for anything from 3 to 23 hours. Three things change the total: the car, the time each hour starts, and going past 12 hours. The quote shows the full price before you reserve.

Toyota AlphardRM 2007
Mercedes-Benz S-ClassRM 3005

Lexus LM300hRM 7707
Bentley Bentayga MansoryRM 8005

Every hour includes the chauffeur, door-to-door driving and as many stops as you like. Prices are in ringgit and confirmed when you book. If you're choosing on comfort, luggage or presence rather than price, luxury chauffeur cars compared puts them side by side.

The time bands

Each hour is charged at the rate for the time it starts:

Hour startsRate
7 am to 7 pmNormal
7 pm to 11 pmEvening, +30%
11 pm to 7 amOvernight, +50%

Part-hours are charged as part-hours, never rounded up to a full hour. Book more than 12 hours and 10% comes off the total; exactly 12 doesn't qualify. Weekends aren't mentioned in the rules, which set rates by time of day only CHECK: confirm there is no weekend or public-holiday surcharge.

Four bookings, worked out

Multiply the car's hourly rate by the number at the end of each line.

An afternoon of meetings, 3 pm to 7 pm. Four normal hours. 4 times the hourly rate.

The same four hours, 6 pm to 10 pm, in an S-Class. The 6 pm hour is normal; the hours starting at 7, 8 and 9 pm are evening hours at 1.3 each. 1 + 1.3 + 1.3 + 1.3 = 4.9 times RM 300. Moving the start back by three hours saves almost a full hour's charge, so plan an evening reception with the bands in mind.

A late night out, 10 pm to 2 am. The 10 pm hour is evening (1.3) and the hours starting at 11 pm, midnight and 1 am are overnight (1.5 each). 1.3 + 4.5 = 5.8 times the hourly rate. The chauffeur also takes guests home at the end, so nobody has to argue about who drives.

A long day, 7 am to 9 pm. Twelve normal hours and two evening hours: 12 + 1.3 + 1.3 = 14.6. It's over 12 hours, so 10% comes off: 13.14 times the hourly rate. If your day might run long, say so when you book, so the quote covers the hours you'll actually use CHECK: if the day runs past the booked hours, can it be extended on the day, and at what rate.

When hourly is the wrong way to book

If there's one pick-up, one drop-off and no waiting, book One Way. It's priced on distance: a base built on the car's hourly rate plus a charge per kilometre CHECK: the per-kilometre rate for each car, and any minimum charge on one-way trips.

KLIA, KLIA2 and Genting Highlands have flat fares of their own for trips under 80 km, the same day or night, so the time bands don't apply. Our guides to the KLIA transfer to Kuala Lumpur and a private car from KL to Genting list each car's fare.

If you already have a car and only need someone to drive it, a chauffeur car is more than you need. The driver service puts a Grandpride driver in your own car for RM 385 per 8-hour day, with overtime at RM 40 an hour, or RM 50 after midnight. It's priced by the day, not the hour.

Weddings and events

The S-Class is booked by the hour like the rest, with the same bands, so plan an evening reception around the 7 pm change. Every S-Class wedding car is the long-wheelbase model, in white, silver or black, with room for the bride, the groom and the dress; wedding car with a chauffeur covers the rest of the day. For event arrivals there's also the GrandRide Limousine, in white or black CHECK: how the GrandRide Limousine is priced and booked.

What's in the price, and what to ask

Grandpride prices each trip in full before you reserve and says there are no hidden extras. Two things to confirm for your own trip: whether tolls, parking and fuel sit inside the hourly price CHECK: are tolls, parking and fuel included in the hourly price, and any special requests. Child seats and the like are priced per booking, added to your total, and confirmed with you before the trip.

Online bookings need at least two days' notice. You pay a RM 50 booking fee online, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person. See the price for your trip on the booking page.
