An Indian wedding car in Malaysia does three jobs on the day: it brings the groom to the temple, hall or gurdwara, it takes the married couple away afterwards, and, alongside it, seven-seaters move the two families. With Grandpride, the groom's car can be a chauffeured Bentley Bentayga Mansory at RM 800 an hour or a long-wheelbase S-Class at RM 300 an hour, and a Toyota Alphard for the family starts at RM 200 an hour. Every chauffeur booking is 3 hours minimum.
Malaysian Indian weddings aren't one tradition. A Tamil Hindu wedding, a Telugu or Malayali one, a Sikh Anand Karaj and a church wedding each run differently, and families add their own customs. The car plan below follows the common shape; your family's priest or elders set the timetable.
If your date falls in Thai, book the cars first
Many Tamil couples marry in the Tamil month of Thai, roughly mid-January to mid-February, and avoid Aadi (mid-July to mid-August) and Margazhi (mid-December to mid-January). The auspicious dates within Thai are limited, and in some years most of them land on weekdays. So a lot of weddings compete for the same few mornings.
Each wedding car can only be at one wedding that morning, so check the cars the week the date is fixed. Self-drive cars are on the vehicle list, where booked cars show as not available and each car's page greys out taken days; the chauffeur booking page shows which chauffeur cars are free for your time. Online chauffeur bookings need two days' notice at the very least, but for a Thai-month date that's far too late to rely on.
Which car for which job
| Job | Car | With chauffeur | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|
| The groom's arrival | Bentley Bentayga Mansory | RM 800 an hour | 5 |
| The groom's arrival, or the couple leaving | Mercedes-Benz S-Class | RM 300 an hour | 5 |
| Both sets of parents | Lexus LM300h | RM 770 an hour | 7 |
| Relatives, gifts, the bridal party | Toyota Alphard or Vellfire | from RM 150 an hour | 7 |
The Bentayga is the one to choose if the groom's arrival is the moment the family wants on video. It's a tall SUV, so it suits the groom better than a bride in a heavy silk saree; for the couple leaving together, the S-Class limousine has the longer rear and an easier step in.
The morning: getting the groom there
A Tamil Hindu wedding is a daytime affair, and the day starts at dawn with the ritual bath at home. For a Sikh wedding, the groom travels to the gurdwara in the morning with family, friends and his sarbala, and the milni, where the two families meet, happens on arrival.
Either way, the groom's car runs early. Chauffeur hours that start before 7 am are charged at +50%, so if the car only needs to collect the groom at 7.30, book it from 7.30, not from when the groom's household wakes up. If he's leaving from the family home with relatives following, give the chauffeur the exact pickup address, and ask the temple or hall beforehand where a car can stop to drop the groom at the entrance.
The ceremony itself can run for hours: in a Tamil temple wedding the bride leaves mid-way to change, then the thaali is tied, garlands are exchanged and saffron rice is thrown. The car isn't needed during any of that. On an hourly booking it waits nearby, or you can book two shorter blocks if there's a long gap.
After the ceremony: the couple leaves
In a Tamil wedding the bride leaves her family with her husband for her new home, where his family welcomes her. In a Punjabi wedding, after lunch, the newlyweds first go to the bride's home for her family's blessing, then the groom takes her to her new home (the doli). That's two drives, sometimes in two different towns.
- Put both addresses in the booking. One-way trips are priced on distance, and the quote shows the full price before you reserve.
- Keep the couple's car separate from the gifts. Trays, suitcases and the bride's belongings go in an MPV behind.
- Shake the rice and loose petals off before getting in, especially in a car the couple will sit in for an hour.
Fresh flowers on the car
For Indian wedding car decoration with fresh flowers, remember the midday heat: they'll look tired by the afternoon. If the same car is used for an evening reception, plan to refresh them. Our guide to wedding car decoration explains how to attach garlands without marking the paint. Whether Grandpride's cars can be decorated, and by whom, is agreed when you book CHECK: may customers or their florists decorate Grandpride wedding cars, and does Grandpride arrange decoration?.
