Keep hiasan kereta pengantin simple: one arrangement at the front, ribbons running back along the bonnet, a small piece on the boot. Tie things on rather than tape them, use suction cups or rubber-coated magnets on a clean panel, and keep the windscreen, mirrors, lights and number plates clear. If the car is rented, ask before anything touches it.
What looks good in photos
A wedding car is photographed far more than it's driven, so decorate for the camera. A single bunch of flowers on the bonnet or across the grille reads clearly from the front and the three-quarter angle; two or three small arrangements tend to look busier, not richer. Ribbon running from the front of the bonnet back towards the doors frames the car, and ribbon or tulle shaped into roses costs less than fresh flowers and doesn't wilt. A smaller piece on the boot lid finishes the shot of the couple driving away.
Match the flowers to the wedding colours, then hold them against the paint. Pale flowers can disappear on a white car and stand out on black or silver.
Silk or artificial flowers keep their shape in the wind. Fresh petals look lovely parked but can blow off once the car moves. If you want fresh, ask the florist to strip the thorns and wrap woody stems in fabric so they can't scratch.
Less is easier in every way: fewer pieces to fit in the morning, fewer to come loose, fewer to take off at night.
On an Alphard or Vellfire
Plenty of families put the couple or the parents in an MPV, and it needs a different plan from a saloon. The bonnet is short, mostly windscreen and grille, so a grille arrangement or a compact bunch low on the bonnet works better than a long spray. The rear doors slide back along the body, so anything fixed to the side or tied through a door handle is in their path and gets dragged the first time the bride steps out; keep the sides clear and put the ribbon on the bonnet and rear. And because an MPV is tall and upright, a small piece looks lost on it. Make one arrangement a bit fuller rather than adding more.

The day, in order
- The night before, or early morning: wash and dry the car. Grit trapped under a magnet or suction cup is what scratches paint.
- Wipe each spot clean again just before you fix anything to it.
- Magnets: rubber-coated only, because bare magnets can mark the finish. Test each panel first; not every bonnet is magnetic.
- Suction cups: on clean, smooth surfaces, pressed on firmly, checked before the car moves.
- Ribbon and soft string instead of adhesive. Tuck the ends into the bonnet or boot shut-lines rather than taping them.
- No duct tape, electrical tape or wire. They can damage the paint, and tape leaves residue that takes real work to remove.
- Nothing with a hard edge on paint. A wooden plaque scrapes as it shifts; a fabric banner or magnetic sign is safer.
- Window markers on glass only. Chalk-based ones wash off glass with water but may not come off paint.
- Check the driver's view: nothing on the windscreen, side windows or mirrors, lights and both number plates uncovered.
- Before the convoy leaves, a slow test drive round the block. If anything flaps or lifts, fix it then.
- If there's a highway stretch between venues, take the bigger pieces off for that leg and refit on arrival. Drive gently all day; a piece that comes loose at speed is a hazard to the cars behind.
- At the end, photograph the panels after removal.
