Wedding car rental in Kuala Lumpur, from the date to the day

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 5 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

Rolls Royce Ghost

For most weddings we'd put the bride in a chauffeured car and the family in an Alphard or Vellfire. Wedding car rental in Kuala Lumpur at Grandpride works two ways: a long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class with a chauffeur from RM 300 an hour, or a car your family drives, from RM 2,000 a day for an S400 up to RM 12,100 a day for a Rolls-Royce Ghost.

As soon as the date is fixed: decide who drives

That comes before the car.

With a chauffeur, nobody in the wedding party drives, parks or has to stay sober. The chauffeur arrives in professional attire, waits between venues and makes as many stops as the day needs. Grandpride's wedding S-Class is the long-wheelbase limousine, listed in white, silver or black CHECK: which S-Class colours are available on your date. You pay for time, not a day: 3 to 23 hours, evening and overnight hours charged more, 10% off past 12 hours, and the quote shows all of it before you reserve. A wedding car with a driver in Kuala Lumpur shows how to fit the hours round a ceremony and a dinner.

Self-drive suits couples who want something the chauffeur fleet doesn't have, like a Rolls-Royce or the 300SL, or who have a trusted friend happy to drive. Only the named renter may drive, so book it in that friend's name. Driver requirements are confirmed at booking CHECK: minimum age, licence and ID needed to drive a wedding car.

Then check the car is free on your date

Pick your dates on the vehicle list and anything already booked shows as not available; on each car's own page, taken days are greyed out.

The three Rolls-Royces are compared in our Rolls-Royce rental guide, and the S400 limousines and the 300SL sit in the wider Mercedes-Benz rental range.

About the 300SL: Grandpride's rental page asks couples to get in touch about a classic car or a supercar for the day, and the 300SL is the classic, listed as wedding only. What that means in practice is confirmed with you directly CHECK: is the 300SL rented only for weddings, and does it come with a driver, set hours or photo-only use?.

Think about the dress before you fall for a coupé

The Wraith and the Continental GT look wonderful in photographs. But getting in and out of a low two-door car with a deep door in a long gown is hard work, and on a day with a tea ceremony, a solemnisation and a dinner, the bride will do it several times. A four-door limousine or a tall SUV makes that much easier. If you love the coupé, keep it for the portraits.

A few weeks out: write down every movement

Who travels, from where, to where, and when. That list tells you how many chauffeur hours you need and how many MPVs. The bridal car is only one of the cars a wedding uses: seven-seat Alphards and Vellfires carry parents, grandparents and the bridal party together, with a chauffeur or driven by the family. Alphard vs Vellfire rental explains the difference.

Self-drive mileage: every rental includes 120 km a day, which covers most wedding routes inside the Klang Valley. If a venue is further out, add 50 km or 100 km a day, or unlimited, when you book. Pick your protection as you book too; Grandpride Protection+ takes the excess to zero on damage and theft, which is one less thing to think about on a day of tight hotel driveways and crowded car parks.

Reserve, and leave yourself two days at least

You pay a RM 50 booking fee online, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person. Online chauffeur bookings need at least two days' notice, so don't leave the last car to the final weekend.

Self-drive cars can be delivered to your door in the Klang Valley, free within 10 km of the Petaling Jaya showroom and RM 100 elsewhere, or collected in store by someone you name on the booking.

Before anyone ties a ribbon on

A self-drive car spends the day in your family's hands, so ask first before anyone ties a ribbon to the bonnet or tapes flowers to the paint. Whether Grandpride decorates its cars, or lets your florist do it, is agreed when you book CHECK: does Grandpride offer wedding decorations on self-drive and chauffeur cars, at what price, and may outside florists decorate the car?. Wedding car decoration in Malaysia has ideas that don't involve tape on paintwork.

The last week

Confirm addresses and timings with the chauffeur and with whoever is driving the self-drive cars. Ask about the deposit if you haven't already CHECK: is a deposit required for each wedding car, how much, and how long the refund takes?.
