What a wedding car costs in Malaysia, worked through

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 3 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

Rolls Royce Wraith

The wedding car rental price in Malaysia starts from RM 150 an hour with a chauffeur (a Toyota Vellfire) and from RM 300 an hour for the long-wheelbase S-Class, Grandpride's most popular chauffeur car, with a 3-hour minimum. To drive it yourselves, a Vellfire starts from RM 900 a day and a Rolls-Royce from RM 9,900 a day at Grandpride. What you pay depends less on the car than on the hours you keep it and when those hours fall.

An average wedding car hire cost wouldn't tell you much: a 3-hour daytime trip and a 17-hour day that starts before dawn are different purchases, even in the same car.

How chauffeur hours turn into a price

Each hour is charged at the rate for the time it starts. Daytime hours (7 am to 7 pm) are the normal rate, hours starting 7 pm to 11 pm are +30%, and hours starting 11 pm to 7 am are +50%. Book more than 12 hours and 10% comes off the total. Part-hours are charged as part-hours, never rounded up.

Three common wedding bookings, worked out in multiples of the car's hourly rate:

BookingHoursWorks out at
One run to the venue with photos, 10 am to 1 pm3 daytime3 × hourly
Fetching the bride, 6 am to 12 noon1 overnight + 5 daytime6.5 × hourly
The whole day, 6 am to 11 pm1 overnight + 12 daytime + 4 evening, then 10% offabout 16.8 × hourly

Multiply by the hourly rate of the car you want: RM 300 for the S-Class, RM 600 for the BMW i7, RM 800 for the Bentley Bentayga Mansory. The booking page does this sum for you and shows the full price for every available car before you reserve. If the afternoon is empty, two shorter bookings can come out cheaper than one long one; our wedding chauffeur guide compares the two.

The one-off runs are flat. KLIA or KLIA2 for the honeymoon flight is RM 600 in the S-Class, the same day or night.

What a self-drive wedding car adds up to

A self-drive car is a day rate plus the options you choose, itemised before you reserve. No tax line is added, and only a RM 50 booking fee is paid online, deducted from the total: the rest you pay in store or in person.

  • Day rate: from RM 2,000 a day for an S400 limousine, RM 12,100 for the Rolls-Royce Ghost, RM 2,200 for the 300SL, which is listed as wedding only CHECK: what "wedding only" means for the 300SL: driver included, set hours, photo use?.
  • Mileage: 120 km a day is included, which covers most Klang Valley weddings. If one family is out of town, add 50 km, 100 km or unlimited a day; it's cheaper per kilometre than paying for extra kilometres afterwards.
  • Protection: Basic Cover is included. Loss Damage Waiver lowers the excess, and Grandpride Protection+ takes it to zero for damage and theft, with glass and tyres included. Prices vary by car and show as you book. On a day of ribbons, tight taman streets and nervous drivers, price the zero-excess option before you decide.
  • Toll card: optional, loaded with RM 50 to RM 500, and you pay exactly what you load.
  • Delivery: free within 10 km of the Petaling Jaya showroom, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley.
  • Deposit: CHECK: deposit amount for a wedding car such as the Ghost or S400, and how long the refund takes.

Remember who drives. Only the named renter may drive a self-drive car, so the cost of a "free" driver from the family is that person spending the wedding sober and behind the wheel.

Three budgets, three line-ups

Keeping it in the family

A relative drives a self-drive Vellfire for the parents (from RM 900 a day) and a self-drive S400 for the couple (from RM 2,000 a day). Lowest cost, most work for the family.

A fully chauffeured day

A chauffeured S-Class for the couple and a chauffeured Toyota Alphard (RM 200 an hour) for the parents. Nobody in the family drives, and both cars wait between venues.

When the photographs matter most

A self-drive Rolls-Royce for the couple (the Rolls-Royce Wraith is RM 9,900 a day) or a chauffeured Bentayga, with an MPV following. The Wraith is a two-door coupé, which is lovely in pictures and awkward for a long gown, so use it for the portraits and put the bride in a four-door car for the rest. Our Rolls-Royce rental guide compares the Ghost, Wraith and Cullinan.

Before you book

Is a chauffeur more expensive than self-drive?

It depends on the hours. Set 3, 6.5 or 16.8 times the chauffeur's hourly rate against the self-drive day rate plus protection and delivery, then price both on the booking page; the quotes are itemised.

Does decoration cost extra?

That's agreed when you book CHECK: does Grandpride offer wedding car decoration, at what price, and may outside florists decorate the car?. Our wedding car decoration guide covers what's safe for the paint.

Can we pay a deposit online to hold the car?

No. Only a RM 50 booking fee is paid online, and it comes off the total. You reserve, then pay the rest in store or in person.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as the date is fixed. Online chauffeur bookings need at least two days' notice, but each car can only be at one wedding, and many couples pick the same auspicious dates.
