KLIA airport transfer for groups: van or MPVs, and how many you need

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 5 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

Toyota Vellfire 2.5l

For an airport transfer from KLIA with a group, count the large suitcases before you count the people. There are no vans in Grandpride's chauffeur fleet; the biggest cars are three seven-seat MPVs, the Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM, and each takes three large suitcases. That luggage limit is what usually decides how many cars a family or a team needs, and for a family with a suitcase each it can mean two cars where you expected one van.

Seats here is the car's seat count. Whether that includes the chauffeur's seat is CHECK: how many passengers each car carries, i.e. does "7 seats" mean 6 passengers plus the chauffeur. Until that's confirmed, plan on six passengers per MPV and four per sedan or SUV; if it turns out to be one more, you have spare room.

The flat fare is per car, for one pickup or drop-off on a trip under 80 km, the same day or night. Central KL and PJ are about 50 to 60 km from the airport by road, so most hotels and homes there are inside it.

Working out how many cars

Do two sums and take the bigger answer: passengers divided by six, and large suitcases divided by three, each rounded up.

GroupLarge suitcasesCars by peopleCars by bagsBook
Family of 44122 MPVs, or 1 MPV and 1 S-Class
Family of 53111 MPV

Wedding party of 1212244 MPVs

Prams, golf bags, boxes and surfboards count as large items. Put them in Additional requirements when you book so the right car comes.

One split to consider: send the luggage and the younger people in an MPV, and the parents or the VIP in an S-Class or BMW i7. You pay two flat fares either way, and the second car can be the more comfortable one.

At arrivals with two or more cars

Grandpride chauffeurs meet passengers at arrivals at KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Add the flight number and the flight is tracked, so a delay or an early landing is handled. Ask for a nameboard with one name on it, for example the family name or the company's, so everyone walks to the same person. Whether both cars wait at one meeting point is CHECK: with two or more cars for one group, does one chauffeur coordinate at arrivals, and where do the cars wait.

If the group arrives on different flights, book each car against its own flight number.

Children need seats in every car they ride in. Give each child's age in Additional requirements for that car. Special requests are priced per booking, added to the total, and confirmed with you before the trip CHECK: child-seat price and how many child seats each MPV can take.

Before you book two cars

Can I put two cars in one booking?

CHECK: can one online chauffeur booking include two or more cars, or does each car need its own booking and its own RM 50 booking fee. Either way, Book a chauffeur shows every free car with its full price for your trip, so you can see the total before you reserve.

How far ahead should I book?

Online bookings need at least two days' notice. For a group, book as soon as flights are confirmed: three MPVs on the same morning is a bigger ask than one.

How do we pay?

Online, a RM 50 booking fee, which comes off the total. The rest is paid in store or in person.

What if we're going to Genting or Melaka?

Anything over 80 km from the airport is priced as a one-way trip on distance, and the booking page prices it for you. Our guides to KLIA to Genting and KLIA to Melaka cover those runs. For a one-car arrival into town, KLIA transfer to Kuala Lumpur has the detail on each car.
