To lease to own a car in Malaysia with Grandpride, you pick a Grandpride Certified car, sign with a down payment, pay over 12 to 36 months, and the car is yours at the end of the term. No bank is involved. Grandpride makes every decision in-house. People also search for this as "rent to own"; they usually mean the same thing, driving the car while you pay and owning it at the end.
None of this is legal or financial advice. Ask Grandpride to walk you through the contract before you sign.
How does it work, step by step?
Grandpride calls it as simple as ABC:
- Apply. Tell Grandpride the car you'd like, on WhatsApp or through the Lease to Own page. A representative gets in touch shortly.
- Sign. Choose your payment term and sign the contract with a down payment.
- Drive away, as soon as Grandpride can get you into the car, and as far as you like.
- Own it. Complete the term and the car is completely yours.
The contract is with Grandpride Luxury Travel Sdn. Bhd., which backs every Certified car CHECK: lawyer to confirm how the lease-to-own contract is structured, who is the registered owner of the car during the term, and when ownership transfers.

What isn't published?
Some figures are agreed car by car CHECK: how the down payment is set, and whether the total payable over the term is shown in the contract before signing. Every contract has a down payment, so there's no lease to own without one; ask for the figure for your car when you apply. Before you commit, also ask what happens if a payment is late or missed CHECK: lawyer to confirm the terms for late or missed payments, including when the car can be taken back.
Is there a mileage limit?
No. Traditional leases often cap how far you can drive each year. This one doesn't, so a long daily commute or regular trips out of the Klang Valley aren't a problem.
Which cars can I lease to own?
Only Grandpride Certified cars. To qualify, a late-model car must have less than 70,000 km on the odometer, pass Grandpride's exterior checks and be fixed to its standards, pass the same standards inside, and have an up-to-date service record. A car that can't be brought up to those standards can't be a Grandpride Certified car.
How fast is approval, and what about my credit record?
Choose a car from Grandpride's existing stock and approval can be instant. For other cars, you get a result in as little as 30 minutes.
Grandpride says it looks past little or no credit history and that individuals who have been bankrupt are welcome CHECK: lawyer to confirm the position for applicants who are undischarged bankrupts, and what Grandpride does check before approving. It also says that if you discontinue the contract, your CCRIS, CTOS and bank history aren't affected CHECK: what discontinuing costs, and whether any part of the down payment is returned.
One thing to know about CCRIS: Bank Negara Malaysia describes it as a credit-reporting system. It isn't a "blacklist", whatever some advertisements say, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to make a credit record disappear.
How is it different from a bank car loan?
Many cars in Malaysia are bought on hire purchase, sewa beli in Malay. A bank or finance company pays for the car, you repay in instalments, and the lender looks at your income, existing commitments and credit record before saying yes.
Lease to own doesn't need a bank loan. Grandpride decides itself, doesn't look at your bank DSR, and can approve stock cars instantly. How the contract is classed in law is the question in the lawyer note above.
Dalam Bahasa Malaysia: anda tidak perlu memohon pinjaman bank atau sewa beli untuk lease to own dengan Grandpride. Semua keputusan dibuat oleh Grandpride sendiri, dan DSR bank anda tidak terjejas.
Is this sambung bayar?
No. "Sambung bayar" is taking over someone else's car loan informally. The original buyer still has a hire-purchase agreement with a bank or finance company; someone else takes the car and keeps up the instalments without the finance company's consent.
That's illegal. Under section 38 of the Hire-Purchase Act 1967, disposing of a car still under hire purchase without the owner's consent is an offence, punishable by a fine of up to RM30,000, up to three years' jail, or both. The private agreement behind the deal is generally unenforceable, so the person paying has little protection when it goes wrong. Our guide to sambung bayar risks goes into it.
Grandpride Certified Lease to Own is a different arrangement. Nobody else's bank financing is passed on, and no bank is involved. The term, the down payment and the repayments are agreed and signed before you drive away. And ownership is part of the deal from the start. A car offered on sambung bayar terms carries all the risks above, whatever the seller calls it.
What comes with the car?
Road tax, car insurance and special number plates are arranged in-house, but they aren't part of the lease. Grandpride also lists an anti-theft system, its own certified workshop panel for maintenance, service and repairs, a 24-hour concierge 365 days a year (battery jump-starts, tyre changes, lock-out help and fuel delivery), and detailing, ceramic coating, window tint, PPF and custom body kits, some of which, such as body kits, cost extra CHECK: which of these are included in the lease-to-own price and which are charged separately.
Companies can apply too, through the Grandpride Corporate Lease to Own Programme. If your company needs cars and drivers rather than ownership, corporate car rental in Kuala Lumpur covers that.
Should I lease to own, subscribe or rent long term?
None of the three needs a bank loan. The difference is what happens at the end and what the monthly figure covers.
With lease to own you're paying towards a car that becomes yours; road tax and insurance are arranged for you but sit outside the lease. With a Grandpride Subscription, Grandpride owns the car throughout, insurance, road tax and routine maintenance are in the monthly price, and you return or swap the car when you're done; car subscription in Malaysia explains it. With long-term rental you rent by the month with no plan to own; see monthly car rental in Malaysia.
If owning the car at the end is the point, lease to own is the one built for it. To start, message Grandpride on WhatsApp with the car you'd like.
