If you want an Alphard for Hari Raya, book it the day the family agrees on dates. Sewa Alphard Raya is the one rental where waiting a couple of weeks can leave you with nothing: ahead of Hari Raya 2026, Malaysian media reported Alphards and Vellfires fully booked as early as the first week of Ramadan. A seven-seat MPV is what a lot of families want for the trip home, and there are only so many of them. Hari Raya follows the Islamic calendar, so it comes about 10 to 11 days earlier each year, and the rush moves with it.
As soon as the dates are fixed: hold the car
Pick your dates on the MPV list. Any car already booked shows as not available, and each car's page greys out the days it's taken, so you'll see in a minute what's left over Raya. Reserving costs a RM 50 booking fee online, which comes off your total; the rest you pay in store or in person. The festive period may have its own terms CHECK: are rates, the minimum rental length or the deposit different over Hari Raya?.

With seven people and their bags going north or to the East Coast, take the 3.5. For a Raya spent visiting around the Klang Valley, the 2.5 cars do the job; compare the day rates, because the cheapest MPV isn't always the one with the smaller engine. Before you confirm: count the kilometres
Each rental day includes 120 km. That sounds like plenty until you add up a trip home. Five days gives you 600 km in total. Penang and Johor Bahru are each about 330 to 350 km from the Klang Valley, so there and back is about 700 km before you've visited a single relative. Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu are more than 400 km each way.

The distances are rough. If you're unsure, take the bigger package. Unlimited mileage costs less per kilometre than paying for the extra after you return, and anything over your package is charged at that car's per-km rate, which you see when you book. While you're booking: toll card and protection
Most routes home use tolled highways for at least part of the way. Tick the Touch 'n Go card, load anything from RM 50 to RM 500, and you pay exactly what you load. It comes with the keys, so the first morning doesn't start at a reload counter.
Long highway days, kampung roads you don't know and packed car parks at open houses all add risk. Basic Cover is included, and with it you pay for damage up to the standard excess. A Loss Damage Waiver lowers that excess. Grandpride Protection+ takes it to zero on damage and theft and includes glass and tyres, which you'll want on a 1,000 km trip. Then choose delivery or collection. Delivery is free within 10 km of our Petaling Jaya showroom, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley, and quoted on request outside it. If you can't be there, someone else can collect the car once their details are on the booking. The price is itemised before you reserve: the rental for your dates, then each option you picked.
The week before: settle who's driving
A self-drive car is driven only by the person named on the rental. On a Penang trip, that means one of you does all 700 km. If that isn't realistic, there are two other ways to do it.
A Grandpride chauffeur can drive the Toyota Alphard 3.5 from RM 200 an hour or the Toyota Vellfire from RM 150 an hour. Both seat seven with room for three large suitcases. Hourly bookings run from 3 to 23 hours, one-way trips are priced on distance, and online bookings need at least two days' notice. That suits parents flying in to KLIA for Raya, or one long day of visiting around the Klang Valley. On the road
The car goes back with the same fuel level it had at collection, and an MPV with seven people and Raya luggage uses noticeably more than a sedan, so put fuel in the budget. The highways are at their worst in the days just before Raya and on the return weekend; our notes on festive season traffic cover when to leave. Plan rest stops for the children and for the one driver. And however far the family is spread, the car stays in Peninsular Malaysia: no Singapore, no Thailand.
