Every Grandpride rental comes with 120 km of driving a day. That's the car rental mileage limit in Malaysia for every car we have, from the Myvi to the supercars. If your plans go further, add 50 km or 100 km a day, or take unlimited mileage, when you book. For tolls, add a Touch 'n Go card loaded with anything from RM 50 to RM 500; you pay exactly what's on it.
Stay inside the allowance and distance costs you nothing extra. Go past it and each extra kilometre is charged at that car's own per-km rate, which you see when you book. Those rates differ a lot from car to car, so the same 50 km over can be a small amount on one car and a painful one on another. That's why the packages exist: unlimited, chosen at booking, works out cheaper per kilometre than paying for the extra afterwards. Whether the 120 km is counted day by day or pooled across the whole rental is CHECK: is the 120 km/day allowance pooled across the rental period or counted per day.
Which package for which trip
Distances are rough road distances for typical routes. Put your own plan into a map app, then add 15 to 20 percent for detours, wrong turns and circling for parking.
| Your trip | Rough distance | Package |
|---|---|---|
| A day in town: PJ into KL, lunch in Bangsar, dinner in Bukit Bintang, home | Usually well under 100 km | Included 120 km |
| A KLIA drop-off (KL and PJ are each about 50–60 km from KLIA) | About 100–120 km round trip | +50 km a day |
| Genting Highlands and back (about 50–60 km each way, plus driving round the resort) | About 120–140 km | +50 km a day |
| Port Dickson day out (about 100 km from KL) | About 200 km | +100 km a day |
| Melaka day trip (about 150 km from KL) | Around 300 km | Unlimited |
| Three days to Penang (about 350 km away) and round the island | Likely over 800 km | Unlimited |
PJ to the city centre is only 10 to 15 km, so a week of ordinary driving round the Klang Valley rarely gets near the limit. The airport run looks like it fits in 120 km, but only just, and a second errand that day tips it over; that's why it's in the +50 row. If you're collecting arriving passengers rather than driving yourself, a KLIA transfer with a chauffeur is a flat fare. The same goes for the hill: if you'd rather not drive the climb, a private car from KL to Genting has a flat one-way fare.
The short version, if you don't want to do sums:
- staying in the Klang Valley the whole time: keep the included 120 km
- one trip out of town, under about 60 km each way: +50 km a day
- a day trip of 80 to 100 km each way: +100 km a day
- anything further, or several days of touring: unlimited
- not sure, and it's a supercar: take the bigger package, and look at that car's per-km rate before you decide
Each option's price shows as you select it and the total updates on the spot. You see the itemised price before you reserve, and the only thing paid online is a RM 50 booking fee, which comes off the total. How renting with us works covers the rest. For a rental of several weeks, where a daily commute adds up fast, see daily, weekly and monthly car rental. For balik kampung distances in a family MPV, our Alphard rental for Hari Raya guide does the maths.
Wherever you go, the car stays in Peninsular Malaysia. Singapore and Thailand are off the list, so plan road trips within the peninsula; day trips from KL by car has plenty that fit inside a +100 km day.
The toll card
Most expressways in and around the Klang Valley are tolled and the plazas don't take cash, so most drivers pay with a Touch 'n Go card or tag. Plenty of shopping centre and office car parks take the card too. Our guide to Malaysian tolls and RFID explains the systems.
When you book, tick the toll card and choose how much to load, RM 50 to RM 500. It comes with the keys, ready to use, and you pay exactly what you loaded with nothing added. As a rough guide: mostly city driving with the odd expressway, the low end is usually enough; daily cross-Klang Valley commutes or an airport run, somewhere in the middle; a trip out of state or a week of touring, load more, because long-distance highway tolls add up.
If it runs low, you can top up at many petrol stations and convenience stores. What happens to any balance left at the end is CHECK: is unused toll card balance refunded, or does the card simply go back as it is.
Quick answers
Do I have to take the toll card?
No, it's optional. If you already carry your own Touch 'n Go card, leave ours out of the booking. Without either, you'll need another way to pay at the plazas.
Can I add more mileage after I've booked?
CHECK: can a mileage package be added or upgraded after booking or during the rental. Message us or contact the showroom and we'll tell you what's possible for your booking.
Should I take unlimited mileage for one day?
Usually only when you're going somewhere well over 100 km away and back in a day. For an airport run or a trip up the hill, +50 km a day is normally enough.
Set your mileage and toll card when you pick a car from the fleet.
