The BMW i7 is the fully electric 7 Series, a long limousine with a battery instead of a petrol engine. For BMW i7 rental in Malaysia, Grandpride gives you two ways in: drive it yourself from RM 3,300 a day, or sit in the back with a chauffeur from RM 600 an hour. Decide which seat you want first; the rest follows from that.
Which way to book it
If it's for a wedding, a client pickup or a dinner where you'll have a drink, book the i7 with a chauffeur. It's a limousine, and the back seat is where it earns its price. The chauffeur car is a white 2023 i7 that seats five and takes two large suitcases.
If it's the airport, the chauffeur i7 is a flat RM 2,300 one way to or from KLIA or KLIA2 for trips under 80 km, the same day or night. Genting Highlands is a flat RM 3,500.
If you want to drive an electric limousine for a weekend, rent the i7 self-drive. Only the named renter drives, so it's your weekend at the wheel, nobody else's.
If you're weighing it against a petrol limousine, the BMW 740Li is from RM 1,700 a day and needs nothing more than a petrol station.
Range on a day out
BMW quoted a WLTP range of 580 to 610 km for the i7 at launch. WLTP is a standard lab test cycle, so treat it as a ceiling: speed, air-conditioning and the climb to somewhere like Genting all take it down. Which i7 you get matters too CHECK: the variant and model year of the self-drive i7, and whether it's the same car as the white 2023 chauffeur i7.
For most rentals range won't be the problem. Every rental includes 120 km a day, and a Klang Valley weekend of dinners, a hotel and a drive to Putrajaya stays well inside a full battery. A run up north is different. Our EV road trip from KL to Penang plans the charging stops, and EV charging in Malaysia explains the networks and apps.
Two things to ask before you collect it:
- How full it'll be, and how full it should come back CHECK: the battery level the i7 is handed over at and the return rule for EVs, since the fuel rule is "same level back".
- Which plug it takes and whether a charging cable comes with it CHECK: connector type and cables supplied with the i7.
Booking the chauffeur i7 by the hour
The hourly rules are the same for every Grandpride chauffeur car:
- 3 to 23 hours, with 10% off once you book more than 12.
- Hours that start between 7 pm and 11 pm cost 30% more; between 11 pm and 7 am, 50% more.
- A part-hour is billed as a part-hour, not rounded up.
- Online bookings need at least two days' notice.
Add your flight number and the flight is tracked. Ask for a nameboard and the chauffeur holds it at arrivals. You can book for someone else and their name and number go straight to the chauffeur. You pay a RM 50 booking fee online when you reserve, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person. Our guide to hourly chauffeur pricing in KL works through a few examples.
Things people ask about the i7
Is the BMW i7 fully electric?
Yes. It's BMW's first fully electric 7 Series. There's no petrol engine and no exhaust, so there's no engine noise in the back.
i7 or S-Class for a wedding?
Both are chauffeur cars. The S-Class is the long-wheelbase limousine in white, silver or black that the chauffeur page offers for weddings; the i7 is the white, electric alternative. Compare their hourly rates on the chauffeur booking page for your date.
Can I take the i7 to Singapore?
No. Grandpride rental cars stay in Peninsular Malaysia.
Is it good for a first EV?
It's a big, expensive car to learn on. For a first try at driving electric, our EV rental guide compares the i7 with the Porsche Taycan.
