Ask yourself what you're worried about. If it's "will the event run safely?", you need event security. If it's "will this one person be safe and comfortable all day?", you need a bodyguard. Plenty of events need both.
Event security in Malaysia looks after a place and a crowd: doors, guest list, bags, barriers, exits. A personal bodyguard looks after one person, wherever that person goes. An event security team, hired by the organiser or venue, checks tickets, wristbands or the guest list at the door and keeps restricted areas such as backstage or the VIP room restricted. It screens bags, runs queues, barriers and the stage front, handles first response and evacuation with the venue, medics and police, and guards equipment, stock, cash points and the venue itself before, during and after. It's there for everyone, which is exactly why it can't follow one guest around.

In every one of these, the venue's security still runs the doors and the crowd. The bodyguard works alongside them, not instead of them, and moves with one person from the car to the stage and back.
What each costs
Event security has no standard price. It's quoted per event, and four things move it: how many guards (crowd size, number of entrances, layout), how many hours including set-up and take-down, the risk (a public concert is not a private dinner), and extras like screening equipment, a control room or overnight guarding. Ask any provider for a written quote that shows the number of guards, the hours and the rate per guard.

The driver and the driver cum bodyguard drive your own car, door to door, with unlimited stops. Grandpride's personnel typically come from military and law-enforcement backgrounds. The licence
In Malaysia, a private agency that provides "personal guard and protection for the safety of somebody else or safety of property" needs a licence under the Private Agencies Act 1971, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN). Guarding property and protecting a person fall under the same licence category. Whoever you hire, for the doors or for one guest, ask for the licence number and the name of the company that holds it. When both are on site
- Send the run sheet to both: arrival time, entrance, holding room, stage time, exit.
- Agree arrival and exit points with the venue, including where the car waits.
- Give the bodyguard the name and number of the venue's security lead.
- Settle who does what. The venue holds the crowd; the bodyguard keeps a path clear for one person and stays close.
