The cost of a bodyguard in Malaysia at Grandpride is RM 440 for an 8-hour day. A driver cum bodyguard, one person who drives your car and stays with you, is RM 495, and a driver on his own is RM 385. After eight hours you pay overtime by the hour, and more after midnight.

Service8-hour dayOvertime per hourOvertime after midnight
Driver (drives your car, door to door, unlimited stops)RM 385RM 40RM 50
BodyguardRM 440RM 50RM 60
Driver cum bodyguardRM 495RM 60RM 80

These are the rates on our Driver & Bodyguard page, quoted per person CHECK: confirm that each rate is per person, and whether a team of two or more is priced differently. Bodyguard charges are set by the day, not the hour, so there's no published rate for a two-hour job CHECK: is there a shorter booking or an hourly rate for jobs under 8 hours?.

Berapa harga bodyguard sehari? RM 440 untuk 8 jam. Kerja lebih masa RM 50 sejam, atau RM 60 sejam selepas tengah malam.

Some real days, priced

The sum is always the same: the day rate, plus each hour past eight at the overtime rate for that time of night.

A bodyguard from 9 am to 7 pm. Ten hours, so RM 440 plus 2 × RM 50. RM 540.

A driver from 9 am to 7 pm, home before midnight. RM 385 plus 2 × RM 40. RM 465.

A driver cum bodyguard from 4 pm to 2 am. The first eight hours take you to midnight, and the last two are after it, at RM 80 each. RM 495 plus RM 160 makes RM 655.

A bodyguard for a three-day visit, eight hours a day. 3 × RM 440. RM 1,320.

A driver and a separate bodyguard for one 8-hour day. RM 385 plus RM 440. RM 825.

Two things can shift those totals and we'd confirm them with you first CHECK: whether overtime is billed in full hours or part hours, and whether hours after midnight inside the first eight hours carry any extra charge.

One person or two

The driver cum bodyguard saves RM 330 a day against booking both roles separately. The catch is that one person is doing two jobs. When you go into a meeting or a restaurant, that person either stays with you or stays with the car. With two people, one can wait at the car while the other is with you, and that's what the extra money buys.

For an evening dinner and home, one person may be enough. For a day of hotel lobbies, venues and drop-offs at the door, think about who's minding the car.

What isn't in the day rate

The car. The driver and the driver cum bodyguard drive your car, so fuel, tolls and parking are a question to settle when you book CHECK: who pays for fuel, tolls and parking during the booking. Travel further out may add more too CHECK: service area, and whether travel outside the Klang Valley, meals or accommodation are charged extra.

If you don't have a car here, or you'd rather be driven in one of ours, that's the chauffeur service, priced per car by the hour. Our guide to hourly chauffeur prices in Kuala Lumpur works through how those totals are built.

When you don't need a bodyguard at all

If what you want is a reliable person at the wheel of your own car for a long day of meetings or a night out, the driver at RM 385 is the cheaper answer, and our guide to a personal driver for your own car covers it properly. A visiting executive who expects a luxury car and a discreet driver is usually better served by a VIP chauffeur than by a bodyguard in a borrowed car.

Who you're paying for

Grandpride's drivers and bodyguards typically come from military and law-enforcement backgrounds. In Malaysia, personal guard and protection services need a licence from the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) under the Private Agencies Act 1971, and Grandpride's is CHECK: KDN licence number, or the name of the licensed partner Grandpride works with.

A cheap rate is only cheap if the person who turns up is trained, briefed and answerable to someone. Whoever you hire, ask who will be assigned and what their background is before you compare prices. Our guide to hiring a bodyguard in Malaysia lists the questions to ask any provider.

Use the request form or WhatsApp us on +6010 322 3223. Tell us which of the three services you want, the date, start time, expected hours, pickup address and how many people, and a line or two about the day: where you're going and who's with you. That's what lets us quote the overtime properly and send the right person. CHECK: how bookings are confirmed, how much notice is needed, and how payment is made
