Paying for the shape? Take the 2.3 EcoBoost. Paying for the noise? Take the 5.0. Mustang rental in Malaysia at Grandpride is RM 1,400 a day for the Ford Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost and RM 2,800 a day for the Ford Mustang 5.0 V8, each with 120 km a day and Basic Cover. Parked side by side they look almost identical. Driven, they're two different cars.
| Mustang | Engine | Day rate | Pick it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost | 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder | RM 1,400 | The Mustang look, easy in traffic |
| Ford Mustang 5.0 | 5.0-litre V8 | RM 2,800 | The V8 sound and a long weekend drive |
Both are front-engined, rear-wheel-drive coupés with four seats, and either can be delivered to your door in the Klang Valley.
The EcoBoost
Turbocharged four-cylinder. Quick enough to enjoy, smooth and quiet at a cruise, and relaxed in KL's stop-start traffic. If the car mainly needs to be there, at a wedding entrance, a photo shoot or a birthday surprise in the driveway, this is the sensible one.
The 5.0
This is the engine Ford fits to the Mustang GT, so if you searched for a "Mustang GT rental", this is the car you meant. It's a big V8 and you're paying for the sound and the way it pulls. Take it when the drive is the point, ideally a long one on open roads where you can hear it working. Budget for more fuel stops than you'd make in a small car.
Either way, four seats on paper; on a long trip, two adults up front with the bags behind is the comfortable way to do it. And both send all their power to the rear wheels, which matters once it rains.
Still weighing it up against something else? Sports car rental in Kuala Lumpur puts both Mustangs next to the Porsche Cayman, the Nissan GT-R and the AMG cars.
Plan the mileage before the route
A Mustang suits a road trip, and road trips use kilometres. Every rental includes 120 km a day, which is a full day in the Klang Valley and not a return trip to another state.
| Your plan | Add |
|---|---|
| A day around KL and PJ | Nothing |
| A day out to the coast or the hills and back | 100 km for the day, or unlimited for a margin |
| A weekend in another state | Unlimited mileage |
Unlimited works out cheaper per kilometre than paying the car's own per-km rate afterwards. For distances and routes, see KL to Penang by car and KL to Port Dickson; Penang is fine, the car can go anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia, just not to Singapore or Thailand.
The rest to settle before you leave:
- Tolls are cashless, so take the Touch 'n Go card. Load RM 50 to RM 500 and you pay exactly what you load. Our guide to Malaysia's toll system explains how it works.
- Fuel isn't included. Bring the car back with the level it had at collection.
- One driver. Only the named renter may drive, so book in the name of whoever will be at the wheel the whole way, and stop every couple of hours on a long day. If nobody wants to drive a long leg, book a private driver for the trip to another city; one-way chauffeur trips are priced by distance.
Rain and rear-wheel drive
Heavy afternoon rain is normal here, and a powerful rear-wheel-drive car needs a lighter right foot on a wet road. Pull away gently, especially over painted road markings and at junctions, and leave a long gap to the car ahead. The V8 especially will spin its rear tyres if you ask for too much too soon. If your trip falls in the east coast monsoon, read driving in monsoon season in Malaysia first.
On protection: Basic Cover is included, and under it you pay towards damage up to the standard excess. A Loss Damage Waiver lowers that excess. Grandpride Protection+ takes it to zero for damage and theft, glass and tyres included, which is the one we'd look at for a long highway trip, where stone chips and potholes come with the distance. Each is priced for the car and shown as you book.
Booking one

- Add protection, mileage and the toll card.
- Check out as a guest, choose delivery or collection at the Petaling Jaya showroom, and add the driver's details.
