Range Rover rental in Malaysia: Sport, SVR or Velar?

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Range Rover Sport SVR

For a family trip with long drives, take the Range Rover Sport. For noise and pace, the SVR. For a week of hotels and restaurants in town, the Velar. Range Rover rental in Malaysia at Grandpride starts from RM 2,000 a day across those three, each with 120 km a day and Basic Cover, and all three give you the high seat Range Rovers are known for.

Range Rover VelarLower, sleeker, the design-led oneRM 3,300

The SVR shows "from" because it has more than one listing, each with its own rate; open the page to see the figure for the one that's free on your dates.

The Sport

It's quiet at a steady cruise and soft over broken tarmac, and it's the one for a long day on the road with passengers, and the most relaxing of the three on a hill road. If you're heading to Genting or up to Cameron Highlands, the high seat and soft ride make the bends easier on everyone in the car.

The SVR

Built by Land Rover's special operations division, with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and an exhaust whose valves open as the revs rise, so it's quiet round town and loud when you ask. The suspension is firmer, which you feel more on broken surfaces. Take it when the drive itself is the point.

The Velar

Designed to sit between the smaller Evoque and the Sport, it's lower and more streamlined, with a clean, minimal cabin. It's the easiest of the three to place in KL traffic and tighter car parks. For a family whose days are mostly in town, it's the better pick; for long drives, the Sport still wins.

What a week costs

The day rate times seven, plus what you add while booking: extra kilometres, a protection upgrade, a toll card. There's no tax line on top, the itemised total shows before you reserve, and the RM 50 booking fee you pay online comes off it. The rest is paid in store or in person.

For a week or longer, ask for a better price before you book; the rental page invites you to. For a month or more, daily, weekly and monthly car rental compares the longer options.

Plan the distance first. The 120 km a day covers a full day around the Klang Valley, not a return drive to the hills or the coast. Add 50 km or 100 km a day, or unlimited, which is cheaper per kilometre than paying the car's own rate afterwards. Only the named renter drives, so on a long trip that's one driver all the way; plan rest stops.

Protection

Range Rovers sit on big wheels, and hill roads and highway debris are hard on tyres and windscreens. Basic Cover is included, which means you pay towards damage up to the standard excess. A Loss Damage Waiver lowers it, and Grandpride Protection+ takes it to zero for damage and theft, glass and tyres included, priced for the car when you book. At handover, walk round and photograph anything you notice; the rental car inspection checklist says what to look at.

Before you book

How do I check which Range Rover is free?

Set your dates on the SUV list; a Range Rover already out on those days is marked not available. Then pick the car and times, protection, mileage and toll card, and the price updates as you go. Collect it at the Section 13 showroom in Petaling Jaya or have it delivered: free within 10 km, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley, quoted beyond.

What about tolls and fuel?

Expressway tolls are cashless. A Touch 'n Go card loaded with RM 50 to RM 500 can come with the keys, and you pay exactly what you load; Malaysian tolls explained covers the system. Fuel isn't included: bring the car back at the level you collected it.

Can I drive it to Singapore?

No. Grandpride's rental cars stay in Peninsular Malaysia, so not Singapore or Thailand. Taking a Malaysian rental car to Singapore explains the alternatives.

Berapa harga sewa Range Rover sehari?

Bermula RM 2,000 sehari, termasuk 120 km sehari dan Basic Cover. Range Rover Velar RM 3,300 sehari.

If you're also weighing a G63, an Urus or a Cullinan, luxury SUV rental in Kuala Lumpur puts them all side by side.
