Proton X50

Proton X50 rental in KL with Grandpride is RM 600 a day. It's one of the cheapest SUVs in the fleet, and the one to book when you need an ordinary, modern car for a week or a month: your own car is in the workshop, a relative is visiting, or you've just moved to the Klang Valley and haven't bought yet.

The Proton X50 is a small SUV, about 4.3 m long, based on the Geely Binyue and on sale in Malaysia since late 2020. That length is the reason to pick it: it fits the tight parking at condos, older shoplots and the PJ SS2 lanes better than anything larger in the fleet.

If it's just you, or two of you

Take the X50. The gap between its day rate and the X70's adds up over a week, and if nobody sits in the back you'd be paying for space you don't use.

If there are kids, a pram or airport bags

Take the Proton X70. It's the bigger of the two Protons, and a pram plus a weekly grocery run fills a small SUV's boot. Ask about child seats before you book CHECK: does Grandpride supply child seats for the X50 and X70, and at what charge.

If the car has to look right at a client's office

Take the Toyota Harrier. Our Harrier rental guide explains why there are two Harrier listings at different prices.

Renting for a whole month

Nothing about the X50 changes for a long rental, but three things on the booking matter more:

  1. Mileage. Every rental includes 120 km a day, so a 30-day rental comes with 3,600 km. That covers a normal Klang Valley commute. If you'll drive to Penang or Johor during the month, add +50 km or +100 km a day, or unlimited, at booking. Unlimited costs less per km than paying the per-km rate afterwards.
  2. Delivery and collection. Delivery is free within 10 km of the Section 13 showroom and RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley. Our delivery guide has the details.
  3. The monthly price. A weekly or monthly rate below seven or thirty times the day rate is CHECK: does Grandpride offer weekly or monthly rates on the X50, and how they are worked out.

The car has to go back with the fuel level it left with, and only the named renter can drive it. If two of you will share driving over the month, that rule decides it: one of you drives, or you rent two cars.

When renting stops making sense

If you'll need a car for six months or more, compare a rental with a car subscription, where Grandpride's monthly price includes insurance, road tax, maintenance and roadside assistance. Our guide to daily, weekly and monthly rental sets out where each option starts to win. Whether the X50 itself is offered on subscription is CHECK: is the Proton X50 available on Grandpride Subscription.

To book, pick your dates on the SUV list, choose protection, mileage and a Touch 'n Go card, and reserve with the RM 50 booking fee, which comes off the total. The rest is paid in store or in person.
