Supercar rental in Malaysia, from start to finish

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 12 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

McLaren 720S

Decide what the day is for before you look at cars. Supercar rental in Malaysia is usually about one of three things, the drive, the occasion or the photograph, and each points to a different car. At Grandpride you book online, choose protection, mileage and a toll card, reserve with a RM 50 booking fee, and pay the rest in person. A Lamborghini Huracán is from RM 6,100 a day, a Ferrari from RM 7,200, and every car includes 120 km a day and Basic Cover.

CarDay rateBest at
Porsche 992 Carrera 4SRM 6,100The drive, in any weather
Lamborghini HuracánFrom RM 6,100The occasion and the sound
Ferrari 458 ItaliaRM 7,200A naturally aspirated V8 and a classic shape
Aston Martin DB11RM 7,700Long, fast, comfortable touring
Bentley Continental GTRM 4,400Luxury first, speed second
McLaren 570SRM 8,800Lightness and dihedral doors
McLaren 720SFrom RM 7,700The fastest-feeling car on the list

For the drive

The Porsche 992 Carrera 4S, if you want to enjoy driving it whatever the weather does. For a day of long, fast touring, the Aston Martin DB11 or the Bentley Continental GT, both grand tourers you can sit in all day.

The McLaren 720S is the fastest-feeling car on the list and the more powerful of the two McLarens. Both it and the 570S have dihedral doors that open up and out, so check the space beside you before you park.

For the occasion

A Lamborghini. Grandpride has the Huracán, the Aventador and the Urus SUV, and the shape is the most recognisable one on the road. All of them are on the Lamborghini list, and Lamborghini rental price in Kuala Lumpur compares the three.

For the photograph

The Lamborghini again, or the Ferrari 458 Italia: a naturally aspirated V8 in the middle and a shape many people still think of as the classic modern Ferrari.

If what you want is the feel of a fast car without the supercar price, a Porsche Cayman, Nissan GT-R or Ford Mustang costs a lot less a day; see sports car rental in Kuala Lumpur. And if this is your first time in anything this quick, read driving a supercar for the first time before you book.

What the bill is made of

The day rate times your days, each car's rate shown on its page. Then whatever you add while booking: a protection upgrade, extra kilometres, a toll card, each priced as you choose. There's no tax line at the end, and the RM 50 booking fee comes off the total. Separately, there's the deposit you need on the day CHECK: deposit amount for supercars, how it is paid and how long the refund takes.

For more than a few days, the rental page invites you to ask for a better price, so send us your dates before you book.

Protection. The number that matters is the excess, the most you pay towards damage.

OptionWhat you pay if something happens
Basic Cover (included)Up to the standard excess for damage
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)Up to a lower excess
Grandpride Protection+Zero excess for damage and theft, glass and tyres included

LDW and Protection+ are priced for the car and shown when you book CHECK: the standard and reduced excess figures for each supercar, so they can be shown here. A scraped splitter or a kerbed wheel is an easy mistake in a supercar, so compare the Protection+ price for your car with its standard excess before you decide. Car rental insurance in Malaysia explains the levels.

Mileage. 120 km for each day of the rental. Plan your route, then add 50 km or 100 km a day, or unlimited, before you reserve; kilometres paid for afterwards cost more each CHECK: is the allowance pooled across a multi-day rental, or counted day by day?. For a multi-day trip out of the Klang Valley, unlimited saves the arithmetic.

Tolls. Malaysian toll plazas don't take cash. Grandpride can hand over a Touch 'n Go card with the keys, loaded with whatever you picked, RM 50 to RM 500, and that's all you pay for it CHECK: what happens to any balance left on the card at return?.

Settle these before you reserve

  • Licence: CHECK: which licences are accepted, Malaysian, foreign, international driving permit, and any minimum years held.
  • Age: CHECK: minimum driver age for supercars.
  • ID: CHECK: which documents are required, MyKad, passport.
  • Extra drivers: none. Only the named renter may drive. Someone else can collect the car, if their details are on the booking.
  • Fuel: back at the level it left with CHECK: recommended fuel grade.
  • Cancellation and date changes: CHECK: cancellation and date-change policy.
  • Minimum hire: CHECK: is there a minimum rental length?
  • Where it can go: Peninsular Malaysia only, not Singapore or Thailand.
  • Permit. In Peninsular Malaysia, self-drive rental cars should be run under a rental permit issued through APAD, and permitted cars carry a hexagon sticker CHECK: Grandpride's APAD rental permit details to display here.

Booking it

  1. Set your dates on the vehicle list first. Anything already booked shows as not available, so you only compare cars you can have.
  2. Choose the car and times. Taken days are greyed out on each car's calendar.
  3. Add protection, mileage and the toll card. The price updates as you go.
  4. Check out as a guest, no account needed. Choose delivery or pickup and add the driver's details, plus whoever is collecting if that's someone else.
  5. Look over the itemised price and reserve. The RM 50 booking fee is paid online; the rest in store or in person.

Getting the keys

Delivery brings the car to a home, office, hotel or event anywhere in the Klang Valley: free within 10 km of the Petaling Jaya showroom, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley, a quote beyond. Good for a surprise or a day when time is tight CHECK: the notice needed, and whether a car can be delivered to or collected from KLIA or KLIA 2.. The Grandpride KLIA store is coming soon but isn't open yet. Car rental delivery in the Klang Valley explains how door-to-door handover works.

Pickup is at the showroom, Lot 5A / No. 5, Jalan 13/2, Section 13, Petaling Jaya, Monday to Saturday 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm.

Either way, walk round the car at handover and look hard at the wheels, the front splitter and the glass. Point out anything before you drive off.
