Book the car from 7 am if your tee time lets you. Grandpride charges any chauffeur hour that starts between 11 pm and 7 am at the overnight rate, 50% more, so a 6 am pickup makes the first hour the most expensive of the day. An early start suits any golf course in KL anyway, because the thunderstorms tend to come in the afternoon. A 7 am pickup gets you a cheaper first hour and, more often than not, a dry front nine.
A morning round, hour by hour
A typical weekday round at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, with a chauffeur booked by the hour, might run like this. The times are an example, so move them to suit your tee time.
- 7.00 am: the chauffeur arrives at your hotel or home. Bags go in the back, shoes stay in the bag.
- 7.45 am: tee off on the West or East course at Bukit Kiara. The car parks up and waits.
- Around 12.30 pm: off the 18th, showers and lunch at the club. Nobody needs to stay sober for the drive.
- 2.00 pm: back to the hotel or straight to the office.
That's a 7-hour booking, all at the normal daytime rate. In a Mercedes-Benz S-Class it costs seven times RM 300. A longer day, say a round, a long lunch and a client dinner, goes past 12 hours and gets 10% off the total. Our guide to hourly chauffeur pricing shows how the time bands add up.
Why the early start matters more than the fee
Hot mornings and stormy afternoons are a familiar pattern in the Klang Valley, and MetMalaysia says they come more often in the inter-monsoon months of April to May and October to November. In 2025, Subang in Selangor logged 294 lightning days, the most of any of the 42 stations MetMalaysia monitors. Subang is a short way from Saujana.
MetMalaysia also names golf courses and open fields among the places that leave people exposed to lightning. Its advice is that a car's metal body protects the people inside, with the windows closed. With a chauffeur waiting in the car park, you have shelter close by when the course calls play off. If you drove yourself, you have it too, but you also have the drive home in the downpour afterwards. Our guide to driving in the monsoon season covers that part.
Golf courses near KL that take visitors
| Club | Where | Courses | For visitors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club | Bukit Kiara, beside TTDI and Bukit Damansara | West (par 72) and East (par 71) | Open to visitors; book with the club |
| Saujana Golf & Country Club | Off Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Shah Alam, about 17 km west of KL | Palm and Bunga Raya, 18 holes each | Weekdays; weekends more restricted; handicap proof, cart and caddie required |
| Tropicana Golf & Country Resort | Petaling Jaya, about 15 km west of KL | 18-hole East, 9-hole West | Weekdays; weekends more restricted; floodlit night golf on the West course |
KLGCC's West course hosted the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic from 2013 to 2018, and the East course hosted the LPGA's Malaysian event for several years, so both are a proper test. Visitor rules and green fees change, so confirm them with the club when you book the tee time, not on the morning.
Fitting four players and four bags
This is the question to settle before the day, because golf bags take more room than suitcases. The Vellfire, Alphard and Lexus LM seat seven with space for three large suitcases. The S-Class, BMW i7 and Bentley Bentayga Mansory seat five with space for two. We haven't published a golf-bag count for each car yet CHECK: how many full-size golf bags fit in each chauffeur car with all passengers on board. Tell us the number of players and bags when you book.
Until then, assume a four-ball means an MPV. Our side-by-side of luxury chauffeur cars helps if you're choosing on comfort as well as space.
Night golf and the 19th hole
Tropicana's floodlit West course makes an after-work nine possible. Chauffeur hours that start between 7 pm and 11 pm cost 30% more, so an evening round is dearer to be driven to, but it's also the round most likely to end with a drink. With a chauffeur, everyone gets home without anyone deciding who stays off the beer.
If you play every week
A regular weekly game doesn't need a chauffeur car each time. If you have your own car, Grandpride's driver service puts a driver behind the wheel for RM 385 per 8-hour day, which covers a round, lunch and the drive home. For a corporate golf day with guests to collect, our guide to corporate car rental and chauffeurs covers booking several cars at once.
