If you're staying the night, book a one-way flat fare. If you're coming back down the same day, book the car by the hour. That's the main decision for a private car from KL to Genting Highlands. Grandpride's flat fare starts at RM 1,400 one way in a Toyota Vellfire, with your own chauffeur, and it's the same price day or night for a trip under 80 km.

The four cars with a Genting fare

Each fare covers one trip, one way, between your address and the highlands.

CarGenting flat fare (one way)SeatsLarge suitcases
Toyota VellfireRM 1,40073
Toyota AlphardRM 1,60073
Mercedes-Benz S-ClassRM 3,50052
BMW i7RM 3,50052

A family with a suitcase each should take one of the MPVs: three large cases against two in the S-Class or i7. If you're choosing between the two Toyotas, Alphard vs Vellfire sets them side by side. The Lexus LM300h and the Bentley Bentayga Mansory don't have a Genting flat fare CHECK: can the Lexus LM and Bentayga be booked to Genting Highlands, by the hour or one way priced on distance?.

The fare doesn't change after dark, so a late check-in costs the same as a morning one. It's fixed for your car before you reserve, unlike a metered taxi or an app fare, and the car is yours alone for the trip. You pay a RM 50 booking fee online, which comes off the total, and the rest in store or in person.

Genting is about 50 to 60 km from central Kuala Lumpur by road, so most city addresses fall inside the 80 km the flat fare covers. The booking page shows the full price for every free car either way.

One way or by the hour

Staying up there: book a one-way fare to your hotel, and a second one-way trip for the day you come down. Each leg is priced on its own.

A day trip: book by the hour. The car and chauffeur are yours from pickup to drop-off, with as many stops as you like going up, at the top and coming back, and you don't have to watch the clock for a ride down. A flat fare is a drop-off only and doesn't cover the trip back.

For a same-day return, do the sum for your car. In a Vellfire, two flat fares are twice RM 1,400; ten daytime hours are ten times RM 150. The booking page prices both, so try each before you reserve. Two things move the hourly total. Hours that start between 7 pm and 11 pm cost 30% more, and hours from 11 pm to 7 am cost 50% more, so start the drive home before 7 pm if you can. And book more than 12 hours and 10% comes off the total; hourly bookings run from 3 to 23 hours. Hourly chauffeur prices in Kuala Lumpur works through the bands with examples.

Straight from KLIA

KLIA to Genting is a much longer trip than the run from the city, over the 80 km the flat fare covers, so it's priced on distance instead CHECK: how a trip over 80 km to Genting is priced. Put the airport in as your pickup and your Genting hotel as the drop-off, and the booking page shows the full price for every free car before you reserve. Meet and greet, flight monitoring and choosing a car by luggage all work as in our KLIA transfer guide, and KLIA to Genting transfer covers this exact run. If you'd rather split the trip, book the airport transfer into KL on arrival day and a separate flat fare up the hill on another day.

The drive up

Genting Highlands is a hill resort north-east of Kuala Lumpur, above the forest. You leave the city on the highway, then climb, and the last stretch is a winding mountain road. How long it takes depends mostly on traffic out of the city and on the hill road, and both are slower on weekends, school holidays and public holidays, so leave earlier on those days.

If anyone gets carsick, tell your chauffeur at pickup and the climb can be taken gently. Mist and rain are common at the top and visibility can change quickly; the chauffeur drives to the conditions, so leave some slack in your plans. It's also noticeably cooler up there, so pack a light jacket or a long-sleeved layer for the evening.

If someone in the group would rather drive, a self-drive rental includes 120 km a day, and a Genting day trip from the city usually runs about 120 to 140 km, so +50 km a day covers it; see rental mileage and toll cards. With a chauffeur, though, nobody drives the mountain road or hunts for parking at the top.

Things people ask

Can we stop on the way up?

By the hour, as many times as you like. On a one-way flat fare, ask when you book CHECK: are stops allowed on a one-way flat-fare trip, and at what cost.

Is the Genting fare higher in the evening?

No. The flat fare is the same day or night. Only by-the-hour bookings carry the evening and overnight rates.
