Getting to MotoGP at Sepang is easy. Getting home after the last race is the hard part, because the whole crowd leaves at once. So book a car that waits: a chauffeur by the hour drops you at the circuit, stays, and is there when you walk out. The Sepang International Circuit is about 60 km from central Kuala Lumpur by road, and a chauffeured Toyota Vellfire from Grandpride is from RM 150 an hour.
Race dates and session times change every year. Check the official MotoGP calendar and the circuit's own website before you plan anything, then book the car at least two days ahead, the minimum for online chauffeur bookings.
Race day, start to finish
Take a typical plan: leave home at 8 am, back at 9 pm.
8 am, pickup. The chauffeur collects you at your door. From central KL the usual way is the Maju Expressway (MEX), then the ELITE highway south. The circuit is in Sepang, Selangor, close to KLIA (about 14 km from the airport).
Morning, arrival. The Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix has run at Sepang since 1999, and the circuit holds a very large crowd, most of which arrives in the morning. Roads in, car parks and drop-off points all fill together. Parking inside the grounds is first come, first served, so whichever way you travel, arrive early.
During the races, the car waits CHECK: on a by-the-hour booking to Sepang, where does the chauffeur wait, and who pays circuit parking charges?. If it rains and you've had enough, you can leave early; the car is yours until drop-off.
Afternoon, the exodus. The crowd leaves together, and this is when e-hailing dries up and the car-park queues build. Your car is already there.
9 pm, home. That's 13 hours: eleven daytime hours at RM 150, two evening hours at 30% more, then 10% off the whole booking because it's over 12 hours. The chauffeur booking page works this out for every free car before you reserve.
The pricing rules behind that: bookings run 3 to 23 hours; over 12 hours is 10% off; hours starting between 7 pm and 11 pm cost 30% more and from 11 pm to 7 am 50% more. Hourly chauffeur pricing in Kuala Lumpur explains the bands.
Why not two one-way trips?
You can book a one-way drop in the morning and a one-way pickup in the evening, each priced on distance. The trouble is you have to fix the pickup time in advance, and race days rarely end on schedule. For a race, by the hour is the better booking.
The other ways to get there
| Option | Getting there | Getting home | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drive yourself | Your own timing | Car-park queue after the race | Someone stays sober and drives |
| E-hailing | Usually fine in the morning | Hard to find a car, prices surge | You may be sent to a set drop-off zone |
| Train and shuttle | Train to KLIA, then an event shuttle when one runs | Shuttle queues | Shuttles depend on the event; check its transport page |
| Chauffeur by the hour | Picked up at your door | Your car is already there | Priced by the hour, booked ahead |
Two people travelling light can do well on the train and shuttle. For a family, a group of friends or guests you're hosting, a car that waits spares you the post-race queue for e-hailing or the car park.
Driving yourself works too. Every Grandpride rental includes 120 km a day, and Petaling Jaya to the circuit and back is roughly 120 km before any detours, so add 50 km a day to be safe (rental mileage and toll cards explains the packages). Only the named renter may drive, and that person will be driving home in post-race traffic after a long day in the sun. Self-drive vs chauffeur helps you weigh it.
Which car for the group
| Car | Seats | Large suitcases | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Alphard | 7 | 3 | Friends or family, with room for bags and cool boxes |
| Toyota Vellfire | 7 | 3 | The same space at a lower hourly rate |
| Lexus LM300h | 7 | 3 | Hosting guests or clients |
| Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW i7 | 5 | 2 | A couple or a small executive party |
For a big group, take two MPVs rather than squeezing into one; it's a long day in the car. Hosting clients? Corporate car rental and chauffeurs covers running several cars at once.
Flying in for the weekend
Sepang is close to the airport, which helps. A Grandpride chauffeur can meet you at KLIA 1 or KLIA 2 and take you to your hotel, at a flat fare for trips under 80 km, day or night. Give us your flight number and the arrival is monitored. The KLIA transfer guide covers meet and greet and choosing a car for your luggage.
Berapa jauh Litar Sepang dari KL? Kira-kira 60 km dari pusat bandar Kuala Lumpur, dan kira-kira 14 km dari KLIA. Pada hari perlumbaan, peruntukkan masa yang jauh lebih panjang.
