Pick the class of car first. For cheap luxury car rental in KL, that one decision saves more than any discount. A previous-generation executive car, such as a Mercedes-Benz CLS350 at RM 900 a day or a BMW 530i at RM 800 a day, is still a proper Mercedes or BMW executive car, and it costs a small part of what a supercar day does. The rest is about not paying for things you don't use.
- Choose the class, not the brand. Grandpride's fleet runs from a Perodua Myvi to a Rolls-Royce, and within one badge the price moves a lot by class. A Mercedes-Benz C200 Coupe at RM 1,000 a day and a G63 at RM 5,500 a day share a three-pointed star and very little else. The saloons and coupés a generation or two old are where luxury is most affordable. Browse the sedan list and the coupé list with your dates in, and compare the rates on each car's page.
- If you want a roof that comes off, look at the smaller roadsters. The Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 at RM 1,000 a day and the BMW Z4 at RM 1,500 a day give you an open-top evening drive without a supercar day rate. Our convertible rental guide compares the three convertibles in the fleet.
- Time the pick-up to the hour you need it. A rental day is counted as 24 hours from collection CHECK: confirm a rental day runs 24 hours from the pick-up time, so 10 am Friday to 11 am Saturday is two days, and whether any grace period applies. If the dinner is on Saturday night, collect on Saturday afternoon and return by the same time on Sunday. Collect on Friday "just to have it" and you've paid for a day of it sitting in your car park.
- Collect it, or stay close. Delivery is free within 10 km of the Petaling Jaya showroom in Section 13 and RM 100 anywhere else in the Klang Valley. If you're in Section 17, SS2 or Damansara Utama, you're probably inside the free zone. If not, picking it up from the showroom costs nothing but the Grab ride there.
- Count your kilometres before you book. Each day includes 120 km. If you know you'll go further, add 50 km or 100 km a day, or unlimited, at booking. It costs less per kilometre than paying the per-km rate afterwards for the distance over your allowance. Our guide to rental mileage limits and the toll card shows how to estimate it.
- Load only the toll money you'll use. The Touch 'n Go card can be loaded with anything from RM 50 to RM 500, and you pay exactly what you load. A day in town needs far less than a run to Melaka.
- Choose protection with your eyes open. Basic Cover is included, and keeping it is the lowest price on the day. The cost of that saving is the excess you'd pay if the car is damaged CHECK: the standard excess on the lower-priced luxury cars. A Loss Damage Waiver lowers it and Protection+ takes it to zero, each priced for that car when you book. Our rental car protection guide explains the three levels.
- Ask about longer hires. For a week or more, message us before you reserve. The rental page invites you to ask for a better price, and there's no harm in asking on WhatsApp.
What you give up
An older executive car is older. You won't have the newest screens or the newest shape, and nobody will film you leaving a hotel the way they would a Huracán. If those things are the reason for the rental, a cheap version of it will disappoint you, and our luxury car rental price list will show you what each class costs so you can budget for the car you want.
If the goal is a comfortable, reliable car for the week and "luxury" was a nice-to-have, look at the everyday end of the fleet. A Perodua Myvi rental or a Toyota Harrier does that job well.
The money that isn't in the day rate
Fuel isn't included: return the car at the same level you collected it, or you'll pay to have it topped up CHECK: refuelling charge if the car comes back below the collection level. CHECK: is a deposit taken on the lower-priced cars; if so, how much and when is it refunded? If a company elsewhere advertises "no deposit", read our note on what no-deposit car rental usually means before you decide that's the cheaper deal.
