Luxury sedan rental in KL: which luxury car to choose

Updated · By the Grandpride team, Petaling Jaya

Draft, not public. 2 questions for Grandpride to answer before this is published, highlighted below.

Mercedes-Benz CLS350

For most people, the BMW 530i. It's the 5 Series with room for four adults and their bags, at RM 800 a day, and it looks right outside an office, a hotel or a restaurant without making a scene. Luxury sedan rental in KL at Grandpride goes from there up to the electric Porsche Taycan at RM 3,900 a day, and every luxury car rental here includes 120 km a day and Basic Cover.

On an ordinary working week in KL a sedan has the edge over a big SUV: it's lower and shorter, so tight hotel and mall car parks are less of a worry; the back seat has doors that open wide enough to get in gracefully; and the boot closes, so luggage and laptop bags stay out of sight.

Every sedan, with its day rate

CarWhat it isDay rate

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGLarge saloonfrom RM 1,300
Porsche TaycanElectric sports saloonRM 3,900

Each car's page has its own rate, and you see the full itemised price before you reserve. The sedan list shows today's availability. The E63 appears twice at different rates, which is why it's shown "from" CHECK: what "Convert" means on the E63 listings and how the two cars differ; ask which car is which before you book.

If clients ride with you, take the 530i or the CLS350

The 530i is the sensible one. The CLS350 is a four-door coupé with a lower, longer roofline, and it's the saloon people turn round to look at. Either suits a week of meetings or a client dinner.

If it's mostly city driving, take the CLA250 or the 3 Series

They're the compact pair: easier to thread through Bangsar or Bukit Bintang and to park, and still a luxury car inside.

If the drive is the point, take an AMG or the Taycan

The A35, CLA45 and CLA45 S are small cars with a lot of performance. The E63 listings are the big saloons of the group and are at their best on a long highway run. The Taycan is all-electric, quick and silent; if you've not driven electric before, electric car rental in Malaysia explains charging before you set off.

For a long day on the North–South Expressway to Penang or Ipoh, the 530i, the E63 or (with charging planned) the Taycan are the comfortable choices. Add unlimited mileage, and see driving from KL to Penang for the route.

If the important person sits in the back, you want a limousine

A sedan is for the driver. When the passenger matters most, move up to a BMW 740Li from RM 1,700 a day (it's on the limousine list, not the sedan list), an S400 limousine, or a chauffeured S-Class. Executive car rental in Kuala Lumpur compares them and explains when a chauffeur is the better answer.

If you already have a badge in mind, the Mercedes-Benz rental range covers every Mercedes from the CLA to the G63, and the BMW rental guide does the same for BMW.

What comes with every sedan

  • 120 km a day, enough for most days in the Klang Valley. For a road trip pick a package when you book (+50 km, +100 km or unlimited); distance paid for afterwards costs more per kilometre.
  • Basic Cover, under which you pay for damage up to the standard excess. A Loss Damage Waiver lowers the excess, and Grandpride Protection+ takes it to zero for damage and theft, glass and tyres included. Prices vary by car and show as you book.
  • Delivery or pickup: free within 10 km of the Petaling Jaya showroom, RM 100 elsewhere in the Klang Valley, or collect it yourself.
  • A Touch 'n Go card if you want one, loaded with RM 50 to RM 500, and you pay exactly what's on it.

The rules: only the named renter drives (someone else can collect the car for you, but not drive it), the car stays in Peninsular Malaysia, and it comes back with the fuel level it left with. A deposit is taken on the day CHECK: deposit amount for the luxury sedans and how long the refund takes. Online you pay a RM 50 booking fee that comes off the total; the rest is paid in store or in person.

For weeks rather than days, ask for a better price before you reserve. Monthly car rental in Malaysia explains the options, and the rental page is where to ask.
